Job Summary:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as primary point of contact and project manager for prescribed burning study

  • Coordinate fieldwork, including recruiting household members, scheduling household visits, and coordinating/communicating with project staff

  • Travel to field sites in Colorado and conduct data collection, including household surveys and health measures

  • Maintain partnerships and communication with various prescribed burn implementing agencies to enable field data collection

  • Design and maintain data management systems

  • Analyze Colorado statewide prescribed burn survey data to assess determinants of support for prescribed burning

  • Disseminate results to various academic and non-academic audiences through reports, oral presentations, peer-reviewed publications, and the project website

  • Prepare and update institutional review board (IRB) protocols and materials, annual project reports, and other administrative/mandatory reporting

  • Schedule meetings, prepare meeting agendas and materials, and take meeting notes

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • Master's Degree in social sciences, public health or relevant field (e.g., economics, geography, public health)

  • One year of project management experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Grant writing experience

  • Experience preparing institutional review board (IRB) protocols

  • Familiarity with Qualtrics survey manager

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Independent decision-making and the ability to manage a variety of projects and identify priorities effectively

  • Ability to combine detail-oriented project management with "big picture" thinking

  • Self-starting and enthusiastic team player

  • Advanced data management and analysis skills

  • Strong social science data management and analysis skills

  • Flexibility for occasional evening/weekend work and travel to sites in Colorado for data collection with limited advanced notice.

The Department of Environmental and Occupational Health has an opening for a part-time (0.5 FTE) senior professional research assistant (Sr. PRA) – level 1 with an interest in environmental health, social sciences, and social justice to join our diverse team of researchers. This individual will work closely with Dr. Katherine Dickinson, an Associate Professor whose research projects examine climate change and environmental justice, with a focus on engaging communities and decision-makers around actions to enhance resilience. Specifically, the Sr. PRA will serve as project manager for a collaborative team focused on prescribed burning as a wildfire mitigation strategy.
