Job Summary:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Independently and creatively identify laboratory solutions.

  • Independently Review, develop, record, and implement new or modified laboratory techniques and protocols required for research projects.

  • Assist Team Leads, Supervisors and/or management with creation and implementation of processes and procedures and quality improvement initiatives.

  • Assist and train junior team members.

  • Maintain laboratory compliance with environmental health and safety regulations.

  • Order reagents and materials and oversee inventory.

  • Maintain zebrafish colony, including husbandry and genotyping.

  • Perform standard molecular/biochemical assays, including, PCR, cloning, gel electrophoresis, western blots.

  • Perform in situ RNA hybridization and immunohistochemistry.

  • Perform microscopic analyses and basic imaging.

  • Use standard bioinformatic/computational tools to analyze data sets.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.

  • One (1) year professional level research experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.

  • Two (2) years of experience in an experimental or wet laboratory.

  • Previous experience with fluorescence and confocal microscopy.

  • Previous lab experience with cell models and in vitro experiments.

  • Previous lab experience with animal models and in vivo experiments.

  • Previous experience with basic molecular biology and/or biochemistry techniques.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficient knowledge of basic laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.

  • Outstanding customer service skills.

  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.

  • Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.

  • Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information.

Intermediate Laboratory Sciences Professional - 35635 University Staff

The Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism & Diabetes is seeking an Intermediate Laboratory Sciences Professional to maintain and conduct animal studies and husbandry, perform in vitro assays of various directions and cell lines, run, and maintain specialized vascular and phytochemical instrumentation, maintain records of collected data and analysis, and present data and other relevant information in laboratory meetings.This position will work with animal models and will perform animal survival and non-survival surgeries, collect tissues and samples from animals for vascular function and mitochondrial measurements; process tissues for protein isolation or immunohistochemistry; conduct Western blot, and ELISA assays; conduct cell culture studies; conduct and help with reactive oxygen species measurement; conduct microscopy as necessary. The applicant will be involved in experimental design and data analysis. Additionally, this role will be expected to work as part of a team and manage responsibilities accordingly.

The Keller Laboratory's research foci are the investigation of cardiovascular disease (CVD) pathology via the interplay of sex differences in disease progression and the possible treatment of CVD by botanicals. We investigate the regulatory role of localized fat tissue on vascular reactivity in both sexes and determine whether natural products can target specific mechanisms.
