Job Summary:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Procurement Management: Manage the purchase, receipt, and organization of laboratory equipment and supplies.

  • Stem Cell Culture Maintenance: Maintain routine stem cell cultures, prepare stock solutions of growth factors, and monitor their usage.

  • Procedure Development: Assist the PI in creating and standardizing operating procedures for both existing and new assays.

  • Collaborative Research Support: Work closely with the PI and other lab members on their projects, both conceptually and experimentally.

  • Lab Coordination: Manage the assignment of routine lab responsibilities among team members, including tasks like cleaning, maintaining shared equipment, and organizing shared reagents.

  • Safety Compliance: Ensure adherence to best practices for laboratory safety.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field

  • Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or a related field.

  • Prior experience or background within an experimental or wet lab.

  • Prior experience in cell culture.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of basic laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both in writing and orally.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.

  • Outstanding teamwork service skills.

We are seeking an enthusiastic Entry Laboratory Science Professional to help establish our new laboratory focused on the innovative use of human pluripotent stem cells in diabetes research. As the first member of our team, you will work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) to design and set up the lab, manage procurement of equipment and reagents, organize lab spaces, and develop standard operating procedures for efficient lab operations. This position offers a rare opportunity to be at the forefront of building a brand-new research lab. The ideal candidate will be energetic, highly organized, detail-oriented, and skilled in teamwork. The Zhu laboratory is affiliated with the Department of Pediatrics, Section of Developmental Biology, and is located in the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes. Our lab employs advanced genomic tools and stem cell-derived human organoid cultures to explore the unique characteristics of type 1 diabetes in humans. As part of our team, you will be involved in performing routine human organoid culture, assisting the PI in ensuring smooth lab operations, participating in exciting scientific discussions and projects, and receiving mentorship to build your career in the biomedical field.
