Job Overview
In collaboration with Child Life Specialists, Child Life Assistants provide support to patients in the hospital setting by evaluating and facilitating patient activity and events. These interventions occur at the bedside, during special events, and in the patient activity areas. The goal of the Child Life Assistant is to provide opportunities for play and to support the overall operational needs of the Child Life department.

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent Experience: Two years of experience working with children Equivalency: An associate or bachelor's degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience
Responsibilities
POPULATION SPECIFIC CARE Neonate - 30 days to 1yr Toddlers - >1yr to 3yrs Pre-Schoolers - >3yrs to 5yrs School age - >5yrs to 13yrs Adolescent - >13yrs to 18yrs Adult - >18yrs to 65yrs ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform. Assists Child Life Specialist in determining and facilitating activities for the bedside, activity rooms and t(w)een lounge Assists with special events and departmental programming, helps with advertising events to patients and families, assists patients with getting to events, or bedside visits. Helps with set up and clean-up of events Provides instruction, guidance, and assists with training to Patient Activity Volunteers Responsible for maintaining clean, safe, and appropriately stocked activity rooms/t(w)een lounge. Supports the supply process thorough ordering, receiving, organizing, and distributing child life supplies (toys, activities, books, etc.). Assists with the donation process by collecting donations from designated spot, moving them to the child life storage area, and appropriately sorting. Provides services at bedside to support dev lopment and meet recreational needs by providing activities for patients and families. Maintains required patient care documentation and reporting of play sessions.
