JOB PURPOSE / Summary: Manages the Transportation Service Provider services provided by Caterpillar contracted service providers for the shipment of Caterpillar components and machines domestically and overseas.

As Transportation Manager, will be responsible to manage end-to-end Import and Export Logistics and Ground Transportation Operations to ensure timely delivery of materiel for smooth production.

Ensure adherence to Customs Compliance, Trade Regulations, Corporate policies and practices by working effectively with appropriate functional areas to maintain a high-velocity material flow.

  • Accountable for Velocity and visibility of International Inbound and Outbound, Ground Transportation.

  • Set & Measure KPI for various Service Providers & initiate corrective actions to achieve the targets

  • Manage & Control activities related to Freight Forwarding, Customs clearance & transportation activities for all import / export shipments and Ground Transportation operations

  • Ensure strict adherence to trade compliance & legal requirements.

  • Liaisons with Government officials like Customs, Foreign Trade officials to maintain good relationships

  • Managing service providers freight payments and ensure timely accounting and reporting to respective internal customers.

JOB DUTIES : Scope, design, operate, day-to-day services and implement transportation service solutions. Coordinate problem resolution with Caterpillar facilities and approved Service Providers with regards to transportation services. Identify, develop and administer the implementation of improved transportation methods that support Caterpillar's cost and service objectives and goals, to ensure best results for Caterpillar. Incumbent identifies, develops, leads and executes the implementation of transportation projects that support Caterpillar's cost and service objectives, to ensure best results for Caterpillar.

Identifies, investigates, and resolves problems with shipments to ensure accurate and on-time delivery to facilities, and develops initiatives to improve service and lower cost. Manages the performance of these Service Providers through Key Performance Indicators to meet cost and service performance expectations from Caterpillar facilities, Suppliers and Distribution Centers. Identifies, analyzes, develops and implements improved transportation methods that support Caterpillar's quality, velocity and cost objectives. Identifies areas of possible cost savings or improvements in service, associated with the contracted Service Providers. Coordinates impact analysis and implementation of cost-effective solutions with Providers. To coordinate and provide expertise for various PSLD Logistics regional and global transportation modeling and management projects to support internal and external Clients.

  • Governs the performance of Key Performance Indicators to meet cost and service performance expectations.

  • Identifies and implements process improvement opportunities, root causes and corrective actions to reduce performance gaps within the transportation network.

  • Reduce premium freight expense, demurrage & optimize Transportation costs.

  • Provides analytical insights and reporting to leadership and internal customers to generate fact driven solutions and performance metric reporting.

  • Managing service providers freight payments and ensure timely accounting and reporting to respective internal customers.

  • Meeting SOX and statutory audit requirements for freight payment process and governance with Internal customer and external service providers

BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelors / Masters in Supply Chain, Logistics stream

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills

  • Minimum of 8 to 10 years of responsible Import / Exports job experience

  • Experience in Supply Chain / Logistics or Transportation Management

  • Working understanding of the various materials systems and how they interrelate

  • Capable of working and communicating with a variety of company (all levels) and Supplier personnel
