Job Description:

This is professional civil engineering work of a supervisory nature. Working in close coordination with a variety of bureaus, organizations, and stakeholders, this position leads the Bureau of Planning’s efforts to identify and scope projects that are proposed for the MaineDOT Work Plan and special federal funding opportunities. This includes working in close coordination with MaineDOT Planners and our regional and local partners to implement MaineDOT’s Complete Streets and Local Cost Share policies during the scoping phase of projects. The Planning and Scoping Engineer also works closely with MaineDOT Planners, Bureau of Project Development Program Managers, and others to scope Community-Based Initiatives, including Village and Planning Partnership Initiative projects, in preparation for grant readiness. The Planning and Scoping Engineer will also lead the engineering review of planning studies and other work completed by consultants, in coordination with other subject area specialists. This position supervises the Assistant Planning and Scoping Engineer. The Planning and Scoping Engineer also develops and manages cooperative agreements, in conjunction with the Assistant Planning and Scoping Engineer.

To be minimally qualified for this position candidates must provide evidence of the following experience:

Licensure as a Professional Engineer plus two (2) years of work experience beyond such licensure which demonstrates the performance of significantly complex engineering science, competency in evaluating risk, and applying sound engineering judgement as it applies to planning, project development, and/or maintenance of public works structures and facilities.
