Job Description:

The Opportunity:

We are seeking a skilled Patient Scheduler to join our Surgical team at MaineGeneral Health. The ideal candidate will have experience in a medical office or healthcare access center setting, specifically in scheduling and registration. The Patient Scheduler will be responsible for gathering and verifying patient information, including demographics and insurance details, to ensure seamless scheduling of appointments at our facility. The Work:

  • Schedules appointment times using computerized scheduling programs

  • Communicates with medical and clinical staff to ensure the availability of facilities and staff and intake preauthorization’s at the time of scheduling

  • Communicates with patients and/or their families, as permissible, to provide necessary pre-procedure instructions and to confirm appointments

  • Intakes demographics, insurance information, and pre-authorizations as necessary for all scheduled encounters

You Have:

  • 1+ year of experience in a medical office, healthcare access center, or similar setting, with specific experience in scheduling and registering patients

  • Ability to handle a large volume of outgoing and incoming calls

  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills (effective listening, clear communication, effective customer problem resolution, and a warm demeanor)

  • Familiarity with medical terminology and proficiency in using Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems

  • Experience with using everyday computer electronic technology tools (e.g., email, data retrieval, voicemail, and internet/intranet) as well as the ability to effectively utilize and enter information in the electronic medical record (EMR)

  • A dedication to providing exceptional patient care and attention to detail in scheduling and information management
