Maine Department of Corrections is destigmatizing corrections for the betterment of all Maine communities. We facilitate restorative justice practices that equip justice-involved residents and clients with the skills they need to become contributing members of society upon release, including treatment, education, and job training.

We are seeking qualified applicants for the position of Manager of Evidence-Based Practices. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing the Department of Corrections with expertise for Adult Correctional services based programming and case management practices. This position is based in Augusta, ME, and is open to internal and external applicants. Statewide travel to locations is required.

Minimum Qualifications

· Seven (7) years of training, education, or experience in Corrections or other social service fields/work history with preference being given to Adult Correctional Facility programs and services experience.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Coordinate specific initiatives within DOC correctional facilities, field offices and DOC Central Office

  • Provide consultation and expertise to the Department’s Executive Team.

  • Follow the Department’s policies and practices in the areas of Risk and Needs Assessment, Programming, Treatment, case management, reentry planning, and Fidelity monitoring (program evaluation).

  • Plan and coordinate professional development to case managers, unit managers, and other related Departmental positions

  • Support quality assurance and quality control of case management and programming practices

  • Supervise the Maine DOC Recovery Resource Coordinator

  • Collaborate and mentor departmental personnel in case management and programming roles

  • Effective development, implementation, and management of the Department’s ‘Correctional Programs Strategic Plan’ and the goals of the Department of Corrections.

  • Work to develop and refine outcome measures and processes related to organizational goals

  • Manage initiatives, projects, and duties assigned by Departmental leaders

Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Case management practices, including evidence-based practices

  • MDOC philosophy, goals, objectives, priorities

  • Current case management and Core Correctional Practices.

  • Modern corrections classification, risk and needs assessments and protocols

  • Client databases

  • Program observation and evaluation practices

  • State statute, policy, and case law related to adult corrections

  • Modern leadership principles

  • Release and reentry practices, including wraparound strategies

  • Gender responsivity principles, programs, and services

  • Familiarity with grant writing and management processes

Ability to:

  • Inform and educate about Correctional programming to internal and external stakeholders

  • Serve as a consultant to DOC personnel in all adult Evidence-Based Program matters

  • Set goals and priorities for self and other professionals

  • Motivate and provide direction to Corrections staff

  • Develop, assess, evaluate, and monitor facility wide Evidence-Based Programs.

  • Write memos, briefs, policies, reports, PowerPoints, Excel worksheets, workplans, etc., in simple language

  • Create higher level of written work tailored to specific audience.

  • Teach, deliver, and facilitate staff through trainings or other staff development experiences
