Job Overview:

As the person in charge of the kitchen staff at Riverview Psychiatric Center, you will oversee the provision of food services to our patients with the goal of exceeding regulatory standards. You will work under limited supervision, and your work will include planning general and special menus, ordering and purchasing supplies, and supervising and training staff.

Essential Functions:As the Manager of the RPC kitchen, you will oversee cooks and other food service workers in the handling, cleaning, cooking, and presentation of food for patients, with the goal of exceeding regulations while offering delicious food in an appealing presentation. You will also be the one who:

  • Purchases supplies and oversees food production, portion control, and overall presentation of hospital meals to provide balanced, nutritional meals in a clean environment.

  • Assigns, schedules, and evaluates subordinates in order to ensure proper feeding of patients, fair treatment of employees, and proper sanitation.

  • Prepares therapeutic diets under the direction of the dietitian to meet specialized patient needs.

  • Collects information on waste, inventories, and usage; and prepares standardized reports for management in order to improve menus and provide information.

  • Interviews and participates in selecting job applicants in order to hire qualified workers.

  • Trains cooks and other food service workers in proper food preparation and handling in order to improve individual job proficiency and maintain or exceed required standards.

  • Evaluates prepared food for taste and eye appeal in order to determine acceptability.

  • Recommends purchasing of dietary equipment appropriate to department needs.

  • Inspects kitchen facilities and equipment in order to check for broken equipment and unsafe employee practices.

  • Completes required paperwork including work orders and incident reports, develops forms as needed, and keeps departmental meeting minutes.

  • Serves as staff back-up when needs arise.

  • Allocates vacation requests that follow the Department and Union policies.

Minimum Qualifications:

A four (4) year combination of education, training, and experience in menu planning and food purchasing, storage, preparation, and service in an institutional food service program including some administrative and supervisory responsibility.
