Comptroller
The Maine Community College System (MCCS) is seeking a full-time Comptroller. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer,
this position coordinates financial management, reporting and compliance with the Deans of Finance at the 7 community colleges in
the MCCS. The comptroller is responsible for managing the accounts receivable, payable, and financial reporting operations for the
Maine Community College System, including the quality of accounting and financial reporting for the MCCS. This position oversees
the preparation of financial reports such as the balance sheet and income statement and audits. The comptroller ensures that the
MCCS remains in good financial standing. The comptroller manages an accounting staff of 5 and maintains internal financial controls.
The comptroller also assists with building financial strategies for the MCCS, and with creating annual and quarterly budgets. The
comptroller is responsible for providing direction and leadership to the Deans of Finance on financial accounting and internal control
operations to ensure consistent financial reporting and audit outcomes. The comptroller ensures compliance with applicable
accounting standards and State and Federal reporting requirements.

The required minimum qualifications include a bachelors degree in accounting, finance, or business administration and ten+ years
of progressive management experience. CPA is preferred. While not required, a background or familiarity with higher education
environments would be helpful.
The required knowledge, skills, and abilities include:
Knowledge of financial accounting systems (i.e., Anthology)
Knowledge of fund accounting
Knowledge of tax administration
Knowledge of regulatory and other financial standards and requirements
Knowledge of Federal regulations regarding grant administration
Knowledge of state regulations (i.e., OPEGA)
Ability to gather, summarize and interpret financial data
Experience with developing budgets, conducting financial analysis, and forecasting
Previous supervisory and management experience
Excellent oral and written communication skills and Strong organizational skills
