Position Summary
Lab Pack Chemist I work in the field and on customers\' locations conducting chemical management,
packaging/disposal services for hazardous and non-hazardous materials.
Essential Functions
Conducting routine inspection/audit services to assess customers compliance with hazmat storage, waste management, and occupational safety regulations.
Handling, classifying, segregating, labeling, and packaging hazardous and non-hazardous materials according to Federal and State regulations.
Training laboratory/production staff to understand proper chemical handling/storage techniques and relevant environmental laws.
Responding to emergency chemical spills and performing cleanup duties.
Preparing shipping documents and coordinating transportation of chemical products and hazardous waste materials to and from customer sites.
Performing consolidation of hazardous materials/waste (i.e., bulking, repackaging).
Providing expert knowledge on government regulations, health and safety practices, and proper disposal methods to customers.
Performing other job-related duties as assigned.
Bulk/consolidate chemicals while using personal protective and respiratory protective equipment.
Administrative functions include creating packing lists, QA/QC documents, and waste tracking.
Repackage chemicals as per the final disposal facility specifications.
Work with Chemist teams to perform lab pack services, segregating and classifying hazardous and non-hazardous materials per Federal DEP & EPA guidelines and State requirements.
Properly complete waste profiles and regulatory documentation including manifests, Land Disposal Restrictions (LDRs) and container labels.
Perform projects pertaining to hazardous waste operations, including sampling, drum handling and disposal.
Ensures Health and Safety policies are always strictly followed
Performs emergency response activities as needed
Implements operational initiatives as developed by management
Perform other job-related duties as assigned by management
Completes waste profiles and regulatory documentation.
Working Conditions
Timely and dependable attendance required.
Must be flexible to work outside normal business hours as needed.
Must be prepared to work flexible or extended hours in inclement weather conditions, including heat, cold, & humidity
Willingness to enter confined spaces, work from heights & occasionally perform tasks from boats.
Able to work as part of a team and independently, under minimal supervision.
Qualifications
Bachelor\'s Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science or Finance preferred
Working Knowledge of applicable DOT, EPA, and OSHA regulations preferred
Pass a Pre-Employment DOT Physical, Drug Screen and Alcohol testing
Pass a Pre-Employment Background Screening
Pass the Company\'s Auto Insurance Qualifiers
Pass the OSHA HAZWOPER 40-hour training
Must be 21 years of age or older
Able to read, write, and understand the English language, and able to follow verbal and written inst
