Global Commercial Services (GCS) is the global leader in providing payments solutions for Small, Medium and Large businesses. To ensure we keep on the leading edge of the dynamic commercial payments landscape, the GCS Strategy, M&A and Alliances team is charged with defining the long-term business objectives and driving strategic opportunities to accelerate revenue growth. The VP, Global Strategy and M&A will play a key role in the development and delivery of these critical initiatives.

As a leader on the GCS Strategy and M&A team, this individual will help to define GCS's long-term business objectives, set priorities, and analyze/ pursue strategic inorganic opportunities. This role provides the opportunity to learn about our current business as well as new business opportunities, and it provides excellent exposure to senior leadership across GCS. The candidate will also lead a dedicated, motivated team!

Key Activities

  • Apply innovative and critical thinking to synthesize an understanding of customer needs, marketplace and competitive dynamics, financial drivers, and business growth opportunities into a comprehensive strategy and business roadmap for GCS

  • Work directly with the GCS Senior Leadership Team and key partners across the organization to define priorities and operating plans to deliver against strategic objectives

  • Drive GCS inorganic growth strategies including buy/build/partner recommendations

  • Lead M&A efforts in partnership with Corporate Development and relevant AXP colleagues

  • Serve as a center of excellence to support partner organizations on key initiatives

  • Create presentation materials for executive presentations to the CEO, Board of Directors, and other external stakeholders

Qualifications

  • Outstanding analytical and strategic skills, with proven ability to synthesize complex inputs into clear recommendations

  • Exceptional communication skills – both written and verbal – with comfort presenting to audiences of all levels

  • Self-starter with initiative, drive, attention to detail, and pride in work

  • Strong financial acumen

  • Strong relationship management skills with both internal and external parties

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize under pressure of deadlines, while working independently

  • Track record of outstanding people leadership skills and focus on developing strong talent

  • MBA and/or experience in management consulting strongly preferred

Qualifications

Salary Range: $185,000.00 to $260,000.00 annually bonus equity (if applicable) benefits
