Southern Company Supv, Customer Experience - Billing in Atlanta, Georgia

Job Summary

The purpose of this position is to supervise a staff responsible for Major Accounts, Miscellaneous Billing and other billing services for multiple utilities in the Southern Company Gas enterprise of companies (both regulated and non-regulated). The incumbent for this role is expected to possess a thorough understanding of the systems and processes/procedures associated with large customer billing and miscellaneous billing. The incumbent will supervise a team of employees and will be responsible for driving results, setting expectations, prioritizing work, evaluating results and taking corrective action as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review and approve month end reconciliations and rate entry for all LDCs

  • Analyze and interpret business data and information

  • Review monthly marketer rate calculation entered in ICM

  • Ensure compliance with departmental, regulatory and accounting procedures

  • Monitor and coordinate billing activities using standard reporting

  • Supervises monthly billing close out functions

  • Serves as liaison and subject matter expert for external/internal auditors, customers including quarterly signoff of SOX controls

  • Works with customers (internal and external) to resolve problems; answers questions and provides recommendations on behalf of management

  • Develops training materials/guidebooks and performs internal customer training related to company procedures and internal controls

  • Identify billing system issues and lead issue resolution; develop contingency plans as needed

  • Assist in definition, execution and process improvement of miscellaneous billing production and quality assurance

  • Assist in design and establishment of billing production and quality policy and processes

  • Exhibit an understanding of CC&B billing, Oracle, and accounts receivable functionality, including general accounting principles

  • Continue a close working relationship with peer groups

  • Participate and engage in staff selection, development, performance management and retention

  • Leverage written and interpersonal communications to achieve results

  • Must meet KPI and service level targets on a consistent basis

  • Ensure special projects are implemented on time

Education, Certifications/Licenses:

Required:

  • BA/BS degree in Accounting, Business or similar fields, or equivalent work experience (2-3 years)

  • Any equivalent combination of education, experience and/or training which enable applicant to meet entry requirement

Related Work Experience

Required:

  • 1-2 years accounting management experience with utilities or similar industry

Preferred:

  • 2-4 years accounting management experience with utilities or similar industry

  • Prior supervisory experience

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

Some business travel (less than 10 % travel): The incumbent will be required to travel to the various company sites and to conferences and meetings. Trips may require air travel and/or overnight stay from home for one or more nights.
