The School of Nursing is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to focus on predictors of cognitive outcomes in pediatric brain tumor survivors, including clinical risk factors, environmental resources within the home and community, and genetics. This position is great for someone who enjoys collaborative team science and wants clinical research experience and grant writing experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:

• Initiates and conducts research without direct supervision. Demonstrates advanced skills in performing research. Follows and upholds appropriate human subjects’ protections. Schedules cognitive and blood draw visits. Works efficiently to manage concurrent projects.

• Develops and/or implements research procedures. Oversees data quality control (QC) procedures. Utilizes institutional resources appropriately.

• Presents and publishes research results. Keeps comprehensive, accurate, organized and legible records of research procedures and results. Performs data analysis and reduction.

Writes research reports and scientific publications.

• Assists with the management of multisite research studies including providing instruction and guidance to staff. Anticipates needs for the efficient conduct of research.

JOB DESCRIPTION: Helps design and conduct research within a specified field while receiving advanced training from a designated Principal Investigator to enhance professional skills and research independence needed for pursuit of a career. The specific area of research in which the trainee is mentored is determined by the department and laboratory of the Postdoc. Designs and evaluates experiments. Develops new ideas that promote current research. Prepares and publishes scientific manuscripts under the direction of the Principal Investigator. May be responsible for operation of specific equipment. May teach techniques to others, train, and supervise research staff. Positions are temporary appointments as a research trainee. The initial appointment is for one year, renewal expected if progress is satisfactory and funds are available. Appointments cannot exceed five years.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A doctoral degree or equivalent (Ph.D., M.D., ScD., D.V.M., DDS etc) in an appropriate field. Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills. The ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues. Additional qualifications as specified by the Principal Investigator.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: A MD or a PhD in an appropriate scientific field. Two (2) years of relevant and productive research experience in clinical/population-based outcomes and health behavior research required. Experience must include study design methodology, protocol development, study conduct and analysis. *Postdoctoral fellows in clinical neuropsychology are encouraged to apply.
