Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP, an international law firm, is actively recruiting a Public Finance paralegal for its Commercial Finance Real Estate practice group. This position assists lawyers and non-attorney timekeepers with preparation of basic legal closing documents, routine legal research activities, and other tasks related to one or more of the firms legal practice areas under the frequent supervision of lawyers and more experienced paralegals. Provides leadership in supporting firm, office and team initiatives and in support of management directives.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  1. Basic knowledge and application of Federal, State and Local rules. Stays abreast of current rules changes and informs team of same.
  2. Drafts routine correspondence, memoranda to file, and basic documents using internal templates and/or established forms; correspondence primarily used internally and reviewed by a lawyer or more experienced paralegal.
  3. Performs routine document reviews,e., chronological and alphabetical review of documents. Assists with document organization, and preparation for discovery, trial, administrative, and/or business closings, as applicable and as directed by a lawyer or more experienced paralegal.
  4. Generates task-specific assignments, based on facts of a case or transaction; tracks and ensures deadlines are met in a timely fashion; submits and follows up on docket items. Utilizes basic understanding of regulatory, administrative, and/or court service requirements to complete routine legal filings, E-Filing, and/or communications with representatives of the court, tribunal, agency, etc.
  5. Organizes, maintains and retrieves document files including, but not limited to, correspondence, court papers, corporate documents, legislative materials, case records, transactional documents, governmental filing documents, administrative forms and other materials relative to the firms practice areas.
  6. Files and/or e-files documents with various governmental or other entities, as requested; adheres to firm's e-discovery guidelines and protocols.
  7. Proofreads and marks legal documents prepared by lawyers or more experienced paralegals for accuracy; summarizes legal documents and depositions and, if applicable.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  1. Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. College degree preferred. Paralegal certificate, National Association of Legal Assistants certification or specialty certificate provided by State helpful.
  2. Experience: 0 years experience; Prior case clerk or similar experience helpful, particularly if experience involved work with documents. Case clerk, paralegal, or general legal experience preferred.
  3. Other Minimum Qualifications: Basic knowledge and application of Federal, State and Local rules. Knowledge of Microsoft Office and basic technological and research skills necessary to pull requested documents from online resources required; familiarity with legal technology and computer databases preferred. Ability to work efficiently and accurately under pressure, and present a positive, professional image with colleagues, professional staff, and vendors. Ability to work overtime or travel, as needed, on short notice essential. Ability to work well under pressure, patience, diplomacy, high stress tolerance, excellent interpersonal communication skills, ability to prioritize workload and adapt to changing conditions. Visual acuity needed for transcription, extensive reading and input (typing) of information into computer. Ability to receive and convey detailed information through oral communication. Essential competency processes include language ability, reasoning and memory. To perform this job successfully, the incumbent must possess the abilities or aptitudes to proficiently perform each of the responsibilities and accountabilities described above, with or without reasonable accommodation.
