General Summary:

We are seeking an experienced IT leader to manage a team responsible for maintaining and supporting legacy, web-based applications.

This role requires a highly motivated individual who can manage workloads, ensure compliance, and guide a team in a collaborative and supportive environment.

The ideal candidate will have experience in overseeing application support teams, especially during critical periods like enrollment season.

* This is a hybrid opportunity, defined as 3 days onsite per week at our Portland, ME, Chattanooga, TN, Columbia, SC or Atlanta, GA campus *

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent technical experience.

  • 5+ years of experience in IT or relevant technical roles.

  • Strong background in software development or technology, with proficiency in Agile/Lean leadership principles.

  • Experience with application support, including running and supporting teams in a high-pressure, 24/7 environment.

  • Proven ability to mentor, coach, and lead teams through change, while identifying and addressing skill gaps.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of the organization.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks while maintaining strong business relationships.

  • Proficient in managing meetings effectively and driving team alignment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and evaluate the team's performance, addressing any issues to ensure efficient operations.

  • Manage a well-defined backlog of valuable work, coordinating with business partners to prioritize projects and initiatives.

  • Collaborate with product owners and teams to align business strategies with operational goals.

  • Remove obstacles that impede team performance and delivery, ensuring smooth project execution.

  • Apply Agile practices, such as test-driven development, continuous integration, and deployment.

  • Lead the team in adhering to best software engineering practices, including peer reviews and test automation.

  • Ensure the team stays current with compliance requirements and manages necessary upgrades.

  • Use performance metrics and tools to assess team efficiency and implement improvements.

  • Mentor, coach, and inspire team members, fostering a culture of learning and collaboration.

  • Identify skills gaps and provide cross-training opportunities to strengthen the team.

  • Build a self-organizing team that is collaborative, empowered, and focused on continuous improvement.

  • Conduct regular reviews of team members' development plans, supporting their growth and addressing skill gaps.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of emerging technology trends and leverage them to drive business improvements.

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.

$89,400.00-$174,800.00

Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not. All benefits are subject to the terms and conditions of individual Plans.
