JOB DESCRIPTION: The Emory Healthcare (EHC) Finance Fellowship Program is a two-year, full-time paid position that provides future healthcare executives with opportunities to gain an in-depth understanding of healthcare financial activities spanning from Financial Planning and Analysis to Revenue Cycle Operations in an academic medical center environment. Fellows gain experience through rotations and hands-on project work throughout the organization (Physician Group Practice, Hospital Group, Corporate Finance, and Revenue Cycle). Fellows will also participate in weekly Finance Leadership Meetings as well as Annual Capital and Financial Planning Events. Fellows will develop relationships with Preceptors and other Financial Executives that will nurture their professional growth. The advantages of participating in the Finance Fellowship Program include: Direct reporting relationship to a Chief Financial Officer as well as working relationships with other senior Financial Executives throughout the two years in the program Opportunities to observe and participate in system-level planning and leadership meetings throughout the fellowship Opportunities to learn the entire spectrum of healthcare financial services Opportunities to develop technical skills by working with various financial databases and systems

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: The Fellow is responsible for completing all assigned rotations and achieving assigned goals and objectives within those rotations.

  1. Strategic Assessment: Complete rotations and gain understanding of broad aspects related to Revenue Cycle operations, Physician Compensation, and Physician Recruitment.

  2. Financial Analysis: Demonstrate understanding of basic financial analysis principles through completion of assigned project work and rotations.

  3. Budgeting: Assist, and function as part of a finance team, in the preparation of operating and capital budgets

  4. Professional Development: Works with preceptor(s) and mentor(s) to formulate a plan for professional development. Attends educational in-services as appropriate. Participates in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments.

  5. Relationship Management: Building and maintaining positive working relationships throughout the organization. Attends various routine leadership meetings to gain exposure to leaders within EHC and develop positive working relationships.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Masters degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, Finance, or an equivalent degree program. Applicants must have earned their degree prior to starting the program, with exception of programs that require a residency or fellowship. Prior work experience in healthcare, including internships, and demonstration of leadership through community involvement or professional associations is preferred.
