Position Summary

In support of Morehouse School of Medicine’s Vision; “Leading the creation and advancement of health equity,” the Department of Surgery is seeking Physicians to join their team.

The Department of Surgery at Morehouse School of Medicine seeks an Assistant, Associate, or Professor who is board-certified in critical care medicine. The incumbent provides a full scope of clinical care and services that fall under the field of critical care medicine training. As a board-certified specialist in critical care medicine, the incumbent exams, diagnoses, and treats services for patients that have medical problems characteristic of the specialty, including complex cases where the symptoms are difficult to identify, treatment regiments involving the use of prolonged or complicated procedures or techniques, and where the patient’s condition is critical or fails to respond to previously tried treatments. The services include but are not limited to patient examination, determination of the need for laboratory and radiology evaluations, interpretations of complex tests and examination findings, and the application of that information toward treatment plans.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively with team members, including pharmacists, nurse practitioners, and nursing staff.

  • Review incoming reports (e.g., lab, x-ray, EKG ) and follow up in a timely manner.

  • Prescribe pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens as appropriate to assessed medical conditions.

  • Refer patients to specialists and to relevant patient care components as appropriate.

  • Direct and coordinate the patient care activities of nursing and support staff.

  • Participate in peer review, quality assurance, provider meetings, and other clinical and operational meetings.

  • Follow the case’s progress and modify the course of treatment as necessary to achieve the desired outcome.

  • Prepare appropriate documentation for all cases.

  • Review the Summary of the Care List within the patient’s record for relevance to current patient situations and make recommendations to the primary provider and other subspecialists.

  • Provide input to set expectations, develop plans, and manage processes to assess, improve, and maintain the quality of the hospital’s governance, management, clinical, and support activities.

  • Participate in a collaborative approach that incorporates external and internal customers that systematically plan, design, measure, and assess all processes to improve the performance of healthcare providers.

  • Facilitate patient access to medical care by initiating appropriate referrals to other health care providers.

    Minimum Qualifications

  • Medical degree from an accredited institution in the field of specialization with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service.

  • Board Certified in anesthesiology, emergency medicine, or internal medicine with added qualifications critical care medicine.

  • Must meet Morehouse School of Medicine criteria for appointment as Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor.

Immunization

Immunization Requirements

It is MSM’s Immunization policy that all Prospective Employees are required to provide proof that they are vaccinated against COVID -19 prior to commencement of employment. If employment will commence during Flu Season, MSM requires all individuals to provide proof that they are vaccinated against Seasonal Influenza for the current Flu Season, unless granted an exemption. Failure to provide proof of vaccination for any required vaccines or obtain an exemption from MSM will result in rescission of a candidate’s offer of employment or disciplinary action up to and including termination.
