Overview

Emory Specialty Associates (ESA) is seeking to hire a Chief Anesthetist - Ambulatory, to become a vital part of Emory Healthcare’s integrated Academic Healthcare System .

Work Hours/Schedule:

  • Full Time; 40 hours per week.

Emory Specialty Associates (ESA) handles Ortho/Spine, General Surgery, Plastics, OB & GYN, GI and Outpatient Specialty cases at Emory Ortho & Spine Hospital (EUOSH) and Outpatient/Ambulatory Surgical Centers located in the greater Atlanta Metro area. ESA Anesthetists are an integral part of the Emory Healthcare integrated academic health care system committed to caring, excellence, integrity and value.

Description

  • Works with Physicians and System Leaders to represent the Anesthesia group on committees at the hospital level while also coordinating with other Chief Anesthetists to address system needs. In the leadership role, provides oversight, leadership, and technical expertise for all anesthetists in the daily management of medical services to patients. Recruits, hires & trains anesthetists, establishes work schedules, supervises staff performance, participates in performance evaluations, and determines and disseminates quality activities and design for assigned staff. Coordinates assignments of anesthetist students into appropriate cases.

  • Recognized as a proficient, highly skilled clinician who assists physician colleagues in providing care and management of patients. Routinely demonstrates acquired in-depth knowledge about the care of a surgical patients in daily practice. Performs all clinical duties and responsibilities enumerated in the job description of an anesthetist in an exemplary fashion.

  • Under the direction of an anesthesiologist, assists in the administration of general and regional anesthesia to surgical and non-surgical procedure patients. Performs initial acute cardio-pulmonary resuscitation in life-threatening situations or as directed by a physician. Interprets and records patient's physiological and pharmacological status. Assists the Anesthesiologist in gathering routine pre-op data. Instructs others in principles and practices of anesthesia, respiratory care and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation as directed by the anesthesiologist.

  • Assists in research projects as carried out by an Anesthesiologist. Establishes multi-parameter monitoring of patient prior to, during and after anesthesia or in other acute care situations, including ECG, direct arterial pressure, central venous pressure, arterial blood gas determinations, hematocrits, and routine measurement of temperature, respiration, blood pressure, and heart rate. Establishes other monitoring as may be developed for anesthesia and intensive care use. Manages pre- and post-anesthetic care, including ventilatory support of patients as assigned by an Anesthesiologist. Manages ventilators and other respiratory care parameters as directed by the physician.

  • Works with manager to formulate plan for professional development. Attends educational in-services as appropriate. Participates in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments.

  • Maintains and updates current, accurate patient records including medical assessment, interventions, and evaluations. Collects and interprets diagnostic data to implement appropriate care patient care plans.

  • Trains and teaches other health care professionals including students and residents in techniques and procedures unique to specific setting. Actively participates on organizational health services committees. Performs related responsibilities as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) or Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant (CAA) Master’s Degree program.

  • Require minimum 5 years of experience as an Anesthetist preferably in an acute care Hospital and/or Ambulatory Surgical Center setting.

  • Lead Anesthetist experience highly desired.

  • Licensed or eligible to practice in the State of Georgia. Certified by National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA) or National Commission for Certification of Anesthesiologist Assistants (NCCAA).

  • Must maintain biannual certification through the submission of Continuing Medical Education credits (CMEs).

  • BLS, ACLS and PALS from American Heart Association (AHA) required.

  • Qgenda experience a plus.
