Description

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Community Affairs, the Associate Director of Local Government Affairs coordinates and administers a robust advocacy program at the local government level for city and county municipalities in which Emory has a presence; specific focus is on the City of Atlanta and the DeKalb and Fulton County Commissions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Tracks all CoA and County activity, including attending all city/commission meetings, taking minutes/notes, and sharing them with appropriate leaders.

  • Ensures that leaders know of relevant agenda items of interest to or of impact on Emory, have been briefed, and are invited to attend meetings addressing those items.

  • Clearly communicates to the AVP of Community Affairs and OGCA VP on a consistent basis regarding local affairs matters; remains coordinated with the federal and state affairs teams on overall strategy.

  • Identifies key stakeholders within each municipality, including elected and appointed officials, and cultivates strong relationships; coordinates meetings between Emory leaders and these officials.

  • Attends and presents at City/County quarterly meetings to brief on Emory's work that is being funded by that municipality; facilitates compliance with appropriate grant or contract reporting requirements.

  • Collaborates with Communications & Marketing to develop a communications plan to promote City/County-supported programs.

  • Manages goals, objectives, outcome measurements and metrics, outreach strategies and collaboration opportunities with other internal and external stakeholders.

  • Works closely with department colleagues to design and implement programs of interest to our community stakeholders.

  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree and four years of experience in program/project administration or related field OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

  • Strong understanding of, and relationships with, local government and civic leaders.

  • Demonstrated understanding of legislative, budget and regulatory issues.

  • Excellent communication and project management skills.

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs. Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines of department. This role requires residency in the state of GA. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
