Description
The Assistant Mechanical Engineer (or Assistant Commissioning Engineer) will assist with commissioning, retro-commissioning, and energy related assignments for complex buildings and systems in the mission critical, healthcare, laboratory, aviation, manufacturing, higher education, commercial building, water, waste water and onsite energy markets. The Assistant Commissioning Engineer will work with the project team throughout the commissioning process, adapting commissioning plans to budget constrains, design factors or client needs.
Assist with the writing and execution of commissioning plans, specifications, checklists, test procedures, systems manuals, and reports based upon Burns & McDonnell's commissioning standards.
Assist in the revision of design, equipment submittals, operations and maintenance manuals, start-up reports, checklists, and training programs for commissioning plans.
Review operating modes, sequence of operations and specifics of equipment, operations, and maintenance for commissioning plans.
Assist with documenting results and performance shortfalls. Assist owner, operations and maintenance, design and construction personnel in recommending remedial measures.
Attend meetings with owner, operation and maintenance, design and construction personnel to understand project goals and schedules in order to ensure commissioning work is properly coordinated.
Assist with site visits to coordinate commissioning, evaluate new and existing systems, equipment start-up. Assist with operations and maintenance training.
Assist with operation and maintenance plans to develop an understanding of systems and design intent.
All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program required or;
Bachelor Degree in Mechanical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam required.
Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.
Basic understanding of site safety procedures, including electrical safety.
Basic knowledge with different types of stand-alone monitoring equipment including flow meters, temperature loggers, electrical meters, and others preferred.
Basic knowledge with DOE-2, eQUEST, Energy Pro, and other modeling software preferred.
Basic knowledge with ASHRAE level energy audits and development of energy savings calculations from retrofits and energy measures from retro-commissioning preferred.
Basic knowledge in combined heat and power/cogeneration, central utility plants, data centers, healthcare facilities, laboratories, water/wastewater facilities, controls, building envelope, TAB, NETA electrical testing, renewable energy and other specialties preferred.
Must have the ability to obtain and maintain access authorization to facilities and data of existing and potential clients, including, but not limited to DOE, aerospace, military, food and consumer product manufacturers, pharmaceutical, laboratories, and others necessary to sell and complete work.
Completion of/or ability to obtain OSHA 8-hour Safety Training Course is required.
Basic knowledge in standard mechanical engineering techniques, principles and procedures.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
Proficient computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).
Basic computer skills include AutoCAD, BIM (Revit), 3D Rendering Programs, hydraulic analysis, and HVAC analysis programs.
Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.
Demonstrated leadership skills.
Engineers in Training-EIT Certification preferred.
Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
Involvement on campus or in the community preferred.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without requiring future sponsorship for employment visa status.
