The Division of Neuropharmacology and Neurological Diseases within the Emory National Primate Research Center at Emory University is currently seeking an Assistant Academic Research Scientist to join our team. We carry research related to the pathophysiology of parkinsonism, using a non-human primate of Parkinson’s disease and electrophysiological and related techniques.

The candidate should be motivated, dependable, detail-oriented, have a positive attitude and passion for research. The Assistant Academic Research Scientist will be a team player who is willing to learn on the job and collaborate with lab members and center members. The Assistant Academic Research Scientist will work to ensure the highest quality of laboratory research support, and has good communication skills with co-workers, the management team, PI’s, research staff, students, and other support services.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Duties will include but are not limited to experimental design, data analysis, and interpretation and communication of results of basic and/or translational research.

  • Will be required to reviews literature and apply advanced knowledge, skills, and input necessary for protocol development.

  • May assist in grant and other funding applications, as necessary and appropriate.

  • Performs other responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • PhD or MD OR Master's degree and five years of professional level experience in a technical or research lab.

  • Internship experience or experience prior to attaining the qualifying degree is not considered eligible work experience for this job classification.

  • Laboratory experience will be based on area of assignment.

NOTE: Applicants applying with a M.D. or equivalent degree must be eligible for a Georgia medical license to meet the minimum qualifications.

PREFERRED/DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Extensive experience in neuroscience system research with non-human primates.

  • Experience conducting electrophysiological recordings in awake non-human primates.

  • Experience training and designing motor and cognitive tasks for non-human primates.

  • Experience analyzing behavioral and electrophysiological data, as well as knowledgeable about basal ganglia and related literature.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Work schedule will be communicated during the interview/hiring process.

  • Work with live non-human primates.

  • Work environment involves working with biohazardous blood and tissues.

  • Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.

  • Work is normally performed in a typical laboratory environment.

  • Requires the ability to bend, kneel, and/or squat.

  • Ability to write scientific articles and present research at national and international meetings.

The Emory National Primate Research Center (EPC), in conjunction with Emory University, conducts pre-employment screenings for all positions.
