Shepard Exposition Services Accounting Manager in Atlanta, Georgia

The Accounting Manager will work as a member of the Finance and Accounting team. In this capacity, the Accounting Manager will partner with the Corporate Controller as well as other finance team members across Shepard to provide accounting and finance support as necessary. This unique role combines the critical functions of accounts receivable management and senior accounting duties, focusing on strong revenue recognition, AR and general ledger reconciliation, and analytical reporting. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in revenue recognition principles, AR processes, GL reconciliation, and financial analysis.

Key Contributions of the Role

  • Review and apply appropriate revenue recognition methods per accounting standards (ASC 606) to ensure accurate and compliant revenue reporting.

  • Prepare and post journal entries during month-end closing for multiple entities while adhering to deadlines

  • Prepare monthly general ledger account reconciliations and analysis

  • Reconcile and eliminate intercompany accounts during the monthly consolidation

  • Reconcile prepaid, accruals, and bad debt provisions based on GAAP reporting guidelines.

  • Prepare documents for audits

  • Work with the Controller to improve financial processes within the revenue function.

  • Assist with Cash Flow calculations and projections for CFO cash projections.

  • Budget/Forecast Assistance with CFO / FP&A team.

  • Assist FP&A with job performance analysis from a revenue perspective.

  • Assist Controller with financial statement preparation ensuring all revenue has properly been accounted for through realization or accruals.

  • Oversee the daily invoicing process by billing associates, ensuring all invoices are accurate and generated on time. Monitor and resolve billing issues or discrepancies promptly to maintain smooth relations within the organization.

  • Assist staff accountants with processing cash receipts and post payments to customer accounts, ensuring alignment with the AR aging report.

  • Partner with Sales to provide data for customer inquiries regarding invoices, payment status, and discrepancies. Validate customer account records and ensure accuracy in the Salesforce infrastructure ensuring all GL mapping is aligned to limit bottlenecks in processing downstream.

  • Perform monthly reconciliation of AR sub-ledger to the general ledger, ensuring that balances are accurate and aligned. Investigate and resolve any discrepancies between AR and GL accounts.

  • Prepare monthly revenue reports, providing insights into trends and variances against forecasts. Ensure compliance with revenue recognition policies and validate that revenue is accurately recorded. Partner with the FP&A team and CFO on Sales forecast and cash collections.

  • Assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow), with a focus on AR balances and revenue streams.

  • Review AR aging reports and initiate follow-up on overdue accounts with the customer-facing Sales team. Advise the sales team on action plans for collections, escalating when necessary, to ensure timely cash flow with a proactive approach and transparency.

  • Assist with year-end close, ensuring AR and revenue recognition processes are compliant with year-end financial reporting requirements. Provide necessary documentation and schedules for auditors.

  • Coordinate and provide necessary AR and revenue recognition-related information for the annual audit process, ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial documentation.

  • Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and forecasts, including revenue projections and AR trends, to help senior management plan effectively for the upcoming year partnering with FP&A.

  • Continuously evaluate and improve AR and revenue recognition processes to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and compliance with accounting standards.

  • Work closely with Sales, Customer Service, and Operations teams to resolve discrepancies and improve cash flow, ensuring alignment between departments.

  • Generate ad-hoc financial reports and provide analytical insights for management, supporting strategic decision-making and operational improvements.

  • Leverage new technology and advise the technology team on future integrations that could enhance customer billing workflows, revenue generation and cash collections.

Requirements

  • Minimum +5 years of professional accounting experience.

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.

  • Strong understanding of revenue recognition standards (ASC 606), AR processes, and GL reconciliation.

  • Proven experience in performing detailed GL and AR reconciliations, with strong attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify trends, variances, and insights from financial data.

  • Ability and willingness to maintain confidentiality.

  • Familiarity with accounting and corporate finance principles and procedures.

  • Ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

  • Advanced Excel skills including vlookup, if statements, and pivot tables.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and interpersonal skills with a customer focus both internally and externally.

  • Willingness to work independently within a team environment and assist the team with other duties as required.

  • Able to work under time constraints and ensure deadlines are met.
