Performs transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.Employees at the Transportation Engineer I level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.Employees at the Transportation Engineer II level performs complex transportation engineering work and perform work independently on assignments; however all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.Employees at the Transportation Engineer III level performs advanced and complex transportation engineering work and establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.Essential Duties:Transportation Engineer I:Assists in overseeing contracts, issuing work orders and monitoring construction schedules and contractor payments and job progress on construction projects.Assists in reviewing shop drawings prepared by fabricators for bridges and related structures.Assists with design, computer operations and plan preparation.Assists with the development of design and project development reports, surveys and correspondence.Interprets the Utility Accommodation Policy.Monitors contractors' compliance with plans and specifications.Performs engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts.Resolves differences between contractors and inspectors.Reviews change orders, supplemental agreements, memorandum agreements and extra work orders; reviews monthly and final estimates prior to submittal.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.The Transportation Engineer II performs all of the above and:Assists Area Engineers with construction contract administration matters.Coordinates with Area Engineers and reviews area office contract submissions.Coordinates with utility companies, attorneys and governmental representatives to accurately depict the highway project's impact on adjacent properties.Drives/travels to projecUwork locations to make on-site engineering reviews, analyses, tests and to provide technical support.Reviews shop drawings, plans, specifications, estimates, supplemental agreements and change order requests.The Transportation Engineer III performs all of the above and:Performs advanced and complex planning work such as plan review, calculations and transportation planning studies.Performs data collection, evaluations, analyses, studies, inspections, forecasts, assessments, and/or plan development.Reviews and supports Standard Operating Procedures for maintaining and archiving project schedules; managing resources; managing budgets; managing project changes, and managing quality performance measurements.Analyzes and assists in the resolution of contract problems and disputes.Develops and/or reviews engineering related documents, correspondence, reports and remediation plans.
