POSITION PURPOSE Under the direction of more senior engineering staff members, this position will support daily activities in new product development, commercial and spaceflight production, and application engineering. This primarily involves supporting tool design, test stand design, test equipment selection and integration, troubleshooting and developing production processes, developing automated processes, testing, and reporting. A portion of this position's time will include preventative maintenance and may include facility maintenance. CORE DUTIES (Must do functions)

  • Work in a cross-functional team including Engineering, Manufacturing, Machine Shop, Procurement, and Quality Assurance
  • Engage in continuous improvement efforts for R&D, Cryocooler Manufacturing and Spaceflight hardware production
  • Research, select, and integrate test and lab equipment to support development and production. Responsible for managing preventative and routine maintenance of equipment.
  • Define, develop and refine test methodology and manufacturing processes to support new product development and production activities
  • Working with Drafting/Design in the creation of tooling and fixturing models and drawings, using proper application of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing
  • Working with Sunpower Machine Shop, Purchasing and/or external vendors to procure components, test stand hardware, and test equipment to required specifications/accuracy
  • Working with Technicians to test and evaluate new hardware and modifications
  • Understanding of material characteristics, selection, and mechanics
  • Process development and troubleshooting of manufacturing methods such as welding and brazing
  • Detailed task planning to conduct activities across all project phases from design through process development to build and testing
  • Contribute to creation of documentation as necessary for new manufacturing processes
  • Report activities to team members and Engineering Manager
  • Participate in technical discussions with existing and potential customers regarding product requirements

ROUTINE FUNCTIONS (Lower priority than core)

  • Attend routine technical and programmatic meetings
  • Continuously develop skills through education, observation and mentoring
  • Provide input and documentation for communication with customers
  • Engage in VAVE cost reduction efforts in a manufacturing setting

EDUCATION Minimum Bachelors of Science in ISE, ETM, ME or relevant Engineering field REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally in a cross-functional team
  • Breadth of knowledge and ability to apply a range of engineering disciplines, including machine design, strengths of materials, machining processes, programming, process improvement, etc.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) a must
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, troubleshoot, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions (problem solving skills).
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and complete responsibilities in a timely manner
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and assignments in parallel
