Safety Specialist

Job Description

As a Safety Specialist, you will participate in the development and implementation of safety programs. You will advise the production team on safety protocols and procedures to ensure the safety of all team members and compliance with regulatory mandates. Your role involves performing hazard analyses, conducting routine inspections, responding to emergency situations, and analyzing incident reports to mitigate risks.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement safety programs.

  • Advise production regarding safety protocols and procedures to ensure regulatory compliance.

  • Perform hazard analyses and recommend mitigation procedures to plant operations.

  • Develop and implement department safety work, tracking, and reporting.

  • Conduct routine and follow-up environmental, health, safety, and hazard inspections of the facility.

  • Respond to emergency situations involving hazardous materials, fire, smoke incidents, or unknown hazards.

  • Prepare and submit reports of findings and recommendations.

  • Analyze accident and incident reports for trends and recommend corrective actions.

  • Support production supervisors with safety-related reports and ensure timely submission.

  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Essential Skills

  • Skill in performing safety inspections and ensuring compliance with OSHA and NFPA safety standards.

  • Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel.

  • Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.

  • Ability to develop, implement, and enforce safety programs and protocols.

  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local safety regulations, protocols, and procedures.

  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.

  • Skill in developing safety procedures and protocols.

  • Ability to investigate and analyze information and draw conclusions.

  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health or a related discipline.

  • 0-2 years of experience directly related to the specified duties and responsibilities.

  • Passionate and firm in addressing safety issues.

  • Ability to get on to people when they are not complying with safety standards.

  • Strong in giving orders and ensuring adherence to safety regulations.

  • Able to address safety violations such as improper rotation of assemblers at stations.

  • Responsive and interactive with team members.

  • Knowledgeable in ergonomic issues, AED, CPR, and first aid.

Work Environment

The Safety Specialist will primarily work on the floor and rotate through different processes. The role requires responding to incidents, pushing for report completion, and supporting ergonomic issues. You will ensure team members wear PPE, conduct inspections, and manage safety hazards.

The work schedule is Monday-Friday, 7 PM-4 AM with an hour lunch, and occasionally on Saturday nights.
