Columbia Memorial Hospital Childbirth Educator/Lactation Consultant in Astoria, Oregon

Certified Lactation Consultant/Childbirth Educator Coordinator will provide holistic care to inpatient who need a lactation consult and to outpatient lactation mothers and newborns. Also, coordinating childbirth education classes with appropriate departments. Supports CMH patients, students and provides education to Family Birthing Center staff. The Childbirth Educator/Lactation Consultant role includes clinical practice, consultation and education. This position will provide support to both inpatient and outpatient settings and is responsible for all scheduling of visits and ordering of supplies for lactation and childbirth education. Providing childbirth education in coordination with CMH OB/GYN providers. Other tasks as necessary to accommodate patient needs
Job Requirements Knowledge of/Skill/Ability to: • A thorough knowledge of nursing principles and procedures; knowledge and skills in techniques of patient centered care. • Expert knowledge in breastfeeding, lactation, and childbirth education. • Demonstrates proficient computer skills. Must be flexible as needs arise and possess willingness to acquire new skills and adapt to a changing environment. Must possess assessment skills for all age groups. Must be able to speak, understand, read, and write English. Must be able to operate office machines, as well as medical related equipment. This position is responsible for maintaining a warm welcoming, professional atmosphere while performing general office duties. • Effective written and oral communication skills to explain complex issues in SBAR format. • Ability to work, function and communicate effectively on a multi-disciplinary team. • Must be willing to float to Women’s Center or Pediatric Clinic as needs arise.
License/Certifications: • Current unencumbered Oregon RN License • Current unencumbered Washington State RN License • Current BLS through American Heart Association • Current ACLS through American Heart Association • Current IBCLC certification. • Current Childbirth Education Certification Education and/or Experience • Associates Degree in Nursing from accredited school of Nursing required. • Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred. • Minimum 1-year ambulatory experience in the clinic setting required • Minimum of 1-year experience providing breastfeeding support/education in the inpatient or outpatient setting required. • One year of Childbirth Educator Experience Required Physical Demands and Work Environment Conditions / ADA Compliance Ability to lift and transfer patients is required, usually with the assistance of co-workers. Normal or corrected vision is required. Normal or corrected hearing is necessary to distinguish differences in monitor alarms, heartbeats, and breathing. Manual dexterity is required to operate equipment. Subject to physical and emotional stress of work environment. Occasional exposure to infectious diseases. Works inside. Walking and standing much of the time while on duty. Long shifts necessary at times. Occasional lifting and transferring patients. Subject to occasional physical and emotional stress within a fast-paced environment. Pushes/pulls loaded adult stretchers, beds, wheelchairs, crash carts and equipment carts. Transfers patients to/from cars, stretchers, beds, chairs and ambulates as necessary. Tolerates bending, sitting, standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling for 8-10 hours. Lifts or carries up to 50 lbs.
