HANAC, Inc. – originally founded by George Douris as the Hellenic American Neighborhood Action Committee – is a New York City-based multi-faceted social services organization. The organization was founded in 1972 to serve the needs of vulnerable populations throughout New York City.  

A bookkeeper clerk's role in property management involves managing financial records, processing payments, and maintaining accurate financial documentation. Here are some key responsibilities and skills usually required for this position:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Record Keeping: Maintain and update accounting records and files. Analyze budgets and create financial reports.

  • Accounts Payable and Receivable: Manage invoicing, handle accounts payable and receivable, and ensure timely payment of bills.

  • Bank Reconciliations: Reconcile bank accounts and resolve discrepancies.

  • Budget Preparation: Assist with budget preparation and expense tracking against budget.

  • Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.

  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations, including tax filing.

  • Lease Renewals: Assist with updating lease renewals in compliance with HUD and affordable housing regulations.

    Required Skills:

  • Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy in handling financial data.

  • Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain organized records.

  • Mathematical and Analytical Skills: Strong proficiency in basic math and ability to analyze financial data.

  • Communication Skills: Effective communication capabilities to interact with vendors, tenants, and management staff.

  • Technology Proficiency: Proficiency in Yardi Voyager and Checkscan, familiarity with standard accounting software like QuickBooks or Sage, and Microsoft Office Suite.

    Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma is required, but an associate’s degree in accounting or a related field is preferred.

  • Previous experience in bookkeeping or a similar role, especially within property management, is highly advantageous.

  • Familiarity with HUD and managing affordable housing portfolios is required.

    Salary: up to $55,000 per year
