About our opportunity:
The City of Asheville is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Supervisor, Plan Review in the Public Works department. The purpose of this position is to supervise operations and staff involved in reviewing stormwater, floodplain, and erosion control plans for compliance with local, state, and federal building codes and zoning ordinances and processing related permits.
The successful candidate will be a highly organized and detail-oriented individual to supervise a team,and responsible for ensuring all development projects within the city adhere to safety, environmental, and zoning regulations while maintaining a positive and productive work environment for their team.
What you’ll be doing:
Plan & Assign Work: Prioritize tasks, schedule work, allocate resources, monitor progress, and provide technical support to staff.
Plan Review: Review building, site, and stormwater plans for code compliance, ensuring they meet safety and environmental standards.
Project Coordination: Coordinate surety administration, temporary occupancy certificates, and other project-related activities.
Permit Issuance: Issue permits for various development activities, track deadlines, and notify permit holders of requirements.
Code Enforcement: Interpret and enforce building and development codes, providing guidance and addressing violations.
Communication: Effectively communicate with colleagues, supervisors, stakeholders, and the public.
Customer Service: Respond to inquiries, resolve complaints, and provide information to the public, developers, and contractors.
Board Liaison: Assist the Board of Adjustment with applications, meetings, and related administrative duties.
Supervise Staff: Oversee daily work, conduct performance reviews, address employee concerns, and recommend hiring/disciplinary actions.
Administrative Support: Maintain records, prepare reports, coordinate training, and perform other administrative tasks. Performs other related duties as required.
Benefits:
Hiring rate: $ 66,293.38
13 paid holidays, plus you will earn paid sick and vacation hours

Education and Experience
About you:
We know your time is valuable. Applicants who meet the following minimum requirements or have comparable experience and/or education will be considered :
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Construction Management or a related field required.
Experience: Five years of experience in plan review and code enforcement, to include lead or supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid North Carolina driver’s license. Must possess and maintain a valid Certified Floodplain Manager (CPM) certifications.
