About Our Opportunity
The City of Asheville is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Administrative Assistant III within the Development Services Department. The purpose of this position is to provide direct administrative support to department heads or division managers and provide lead guidance, direction, and
training to less experienced administrative staff. Work often requires a broader knowledge and comprehension of techniques, information, methods, and organizational procedures.
What you’ll be doing:
Leads and coordinates daily work activities of assigned co-workers: confers with supervisor to obtain direction
regarding work assignments and priorities.
Coordinates and provides administrative/clerical support for an assigned department/division
Provides direct administrative support to assigned department heads or division managers
Maintains calendar/schedule of activities for assigned to department head or division manager: schedules and
confirms appointments, meetings, interviews, conferences, training activities, or other activities
- Coordinates travel arrangements, accommodations, conference registrations, or other travel-related plans for
department management or other staff.
Maintains file system of various files/records for the assigned area
Researches, compiles, and/or monitors administrative or statistical data pertaining to department operations.
Distributes documentation between department/staff members and internal/external individuals/agencies
Types, prepares, proofreads, and/or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, lists, logs, notices,
schedules, calendars, attendance records, check requests, purchase orders, requisitions, budget documents,
contracts, agreements, statistical reports, incident/accident reports, work order requests, agendas, minutes,
motions, ordinances, resolutions, accident/incident reports, inventory records, charts, graphs, spreadsheets, or
other documents.
Supplemental Functions:
Performs other similar duties as required.

Education requirements:
- Associate degree in Administrative services, Business, or a related field required; supplemented by three years of experience in area of assignment; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Specific License or Certification Required : Depending on area of assignment, may be required to possess and maintain Notary Public certification or other certifications and licensures as deemed necessary by the department.
Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all City or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM (37.5 hours per week).Flexible/Hybrid schedules may be available.
-Salary Rate: $23.59 per year. Starting rate commensurate with experience.

Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors: Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental
conditions.
