Human Resources Officer

Location of work: 3745 Barnes Lake Road, Ashcroft, British Columbia, V0K 1A0

Terms of employment: Permanent Full Time (Onsite)

Work schedule: This position is based on a compressed work week, Monday through Thursday from 6am – 4pm with Fridays off.

Wage range: $61,000 - $70,000

The position is located at our plant in Ashcroft, British Columbia. Ashcroft is a village municipality that straddles the Thompson River in the Thompson Country region of south-central British Columbia. East of BC Highway 1 and on BC Highway 97C, the locality is by road about 45 kms north of Spences Bridge and 11kms south of Cache Creek (approximately 1 hour north of Kamloops). Given the remote location of the plant, transportation is required. The company does offer a carpool program, however that is subject to availability based on a daily signup.

Position Summary

We are currently seeking a Human Resources Officer to join our team of skilled professionals based at our I.G. Machine & Fibers Ltd. plant at 3745 Barnes Lake Road, Ashcroft, British Columbia. This plant is a production/mining facility that processes, color, and ship granules used for roofing shingle.

Reporting to the Plant Manager and Regional HR Manager, this position will be responsible for identifying and advertising job vacancies, recruiting candidates, and assisting in the selection and onboarding of employees. This position will also assist with day-to-day HR, payroll and benefits administration activities in a plant environment.

Job Duties

  • Identify current and prospective staffing requirements, prepare and post notices and advertisements, and collect and screen applications.

  • Advise job applicants on employment requirements and on terms and conditions of employment.

  • Review job applications and contact potential applicants to arrange interviews and transfers, redeployment and placement of personnel.

  • Coordinate and participate in selection and examination boards to evaluate candidates.

  • Notify applicants of results of selection process and prepare job offers.

  • Advise employees and management personnel on the interpretation of Company policies, programs and procedures.

  • Organize and administer staff consultation and grievance procedures.

  • Resolving minor employee issues and conflict resolution.

  • Determine eligibility to entitlements, arrange staff training and provide information or services such as employee assistance, counselling and recognition programs.

  • Assist the Plant Health & Safety Department with administrative duties.

  • Coordinate all site recognition and social events.

  • Carry out administrative work related to human resource functions and maintain related records.

  • Partner in the effective execution of the Plant strategies to meet business goals and provide feedback and support on all employee related issues at the site.

  • Assist with the developing and propose improvement to policies, programs, and procedures to improve the effectiveness of human resources and safety.

  • Provide assistance with claims management including WSIB, Short Term Disability and the Return-to-Work program.

Educations/skills

  • College or University Diploma in human resources, business administration, or a related field

  • Working towards Chartered Professional in Human Resources designation, considered an asset.

  • 2+ years of proven experience in human resources, required.

  • Ability to organize the workload and manage multiple tasks effectively.

  • Must be a reliable, organized and adaptable team player.

  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities in an environment of rapid change with attention to detail and tight deadlines.

  • Possess excellent oral and written communication skills and have the ability to be client focused.

  • Use of Microsoft Office products at an advanced level.

  • Experience with WorkDay is required.

  • Sound knowledge of employment, industrial labor relations, and occupational safety legislation.

  • Proven experience dealing with government authorities such as WorkSafe BC

  • Experience with benefits and claim management
