HOW A POSTGRESQL DATABASE ARCHITECT WILL MAKE AN IMPACT

This position supports the Geospatial Services & Solutions business area to provide high-quality, cost-effective solutions to the customer. As part of the GSS Team the Database Architect's expertise is needed to support a sophisticated enterprise environment.

The Database Architect is an active participant in SAFe and Scrum development teams and meetings. The Database Architect will be responsible for developing and deploying custom solutions to the customer's enterprise environment.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Researches, designs, develops, tests, and/or modifies PostGresDB table architecture

  • Ability to optimize queries, indexes, and configuration settings for high performance

  • Defining designing scalable schemas that meet business requirements while ensuring performance and maintainability

  • Monitoring existing database performance, identifying architectural bottlenecks and providing architectural enhancements to increase performance

  • Architects a database structure supporting a globally distributed set of sites

  • Maintains documentation to support software development policies, standards, and procedures

  • Works under the guidance of the Scrum Master to produce accurate delivery estimates and manage the transition from analysis through to design and delivery

  • Provides progress updates to Scrum Master and the team to ensure the management of any delivery risks or concerns

  • Works with the team to plan future sprints, define stories and estimate efforts

  • Provides technical support and consultation for database questions

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED:

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work/military experience.

QUALIFICATIONS:

5+ years of related database architecture & administration experience

Required Skills:

  • Strong understanding of PostgreSQL internals, architecture and best practices.

  • Familiarity with popular PostgresSQL extensions such as PostGIS and monitoring tools like pgAdmin

  • Experience with replication strategies to handle large datasets across multiple nodes.

  • Experience designing scalable schemas that meet business requirements while ensuring performance and maintainability.

  • Understanding of automatic and manual failover processes

  • Familiarity with docker and orchestration tools (like Kubernetes)

  • Experience with performance monitoring tools and techniques to track database health and troubleshoot performance issues.

  • Strong proficiency in SQL and PL/pgSQL

  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Desired

  • Experience with Messaging to inform databases (ex. NATS/Pulsar)

  • Experience with PostGIS

  • Ability to perform capacity planning to analyze database usage and plan for future growth

  • Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g. Bash, Python)

  • Knowledge of database security principles and experience implementing security measures such as authentication and authorization

The likely salary range for this position is $111,897 - $151,389. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
