Amazon Systems Development Manager, ASPE - Monitoring Platform Engineering in Arlington, Virginia

The ASPE Monitoring Platform Engineering team is looking for a passionate, innovative, results-oriented system development manager to lead the technical team in building and deploying a new 3rd party security configuration management tool that will be used across Amazon globally. As a Manager III, System Dev, you will lead a team of system and software development engineers to build, integrate and operate tooling that provides system hardening, configuration best practices, vulnerability management and the auditing of configurations of cloud resources across Amazon globally. You’ll work with security engineers, and other software development engineers across multiple teams to develop innovative security solutions at massive scale.
If you have a passion for 1) leading teams of engineers and developers, 2) analyzing, engineering, and architecting system services, commercial off the shelf (COTS) products and 3) possess strong skills in organizing, driving, and communicating laterally and upwards to management, then this position offers you a challenging opportunity to solve complex and far-reaching problems. The ideal candidate for this role should possess both a firm foundation in technical security and a demonstrated ability to successfully deliver complex projects on a large scale.
Key job responsibilities
This role requires a hands-on manager with an established background in developing and operating platforms and services, developing extraordinary talent, have strong technical/ communication skills, and a motivation to achieve results in a dynamic fast paced environment.
Grow and lead a team of highly talented system and software development engineers responsible for managing all aspects of mission-critical systems.
Establish strong relationships with internal partners and peer stakeholders to understand and meet their needs while operating existing systems at a high quality.
Develop and maintain a culture of innovation and operational efficiency in the team.
Manage the design and development of solutions including code reviews, testing, deployment and post-launch monitoring.

Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field, or five or more years of work experience in System development as an equivalent.
5 or more years of people management experience leading System development teams.
Proficiency in one or more general-purpose programming languages such as Java, C/C++, C#, Objective C, Python, JavaScript, Ruby, and Go.
Experience designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems or web services. Experience in managing large scale infrastructure and automation.
Experience engaging and influencing senior executives using both verbal and written communication tools.
Preferred Qualifications
Firm foundation in technical security. Experience in implementing 3rd party /COTS products
Expertise in operations of highly available and scalable internet systems with large customer base. Excellent communication abilities, both verbal and written, including long-form business writing on complex topics.
Ability to drive effective teamwork, collaboration and commitment. Excellent analytical problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
Experience developing and improving operational documentation, procedures and workflows. Ability to credibly coordinate between technical teams, peers and business stakeholders.
Ability to quickly learn and adopt new technologies. Experience in contributing to the definition and implementation of automation opportunities within an operations environment.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $149,700/year in our lowest geographic market up to $258,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
