The Amazon Business Delivery Experience team is seeking a talented, passionate user experience designer to join our growing group. Working in close collaboration with technology and business teams across international locales, you will quickly and effectively translate business needs into simple yet elegant customer-focused solutions. You’ll leverage visitor data, user feedback and stakeholder input to create wireframes, interface designs and prototypes. You’ll be a key contributor in creating best-in-class customer delivery experiences at Earth’s most customer-centric company.

A Senior UX Designer in this organization works on the tactical and strategic. They determine the strategy and where to simplify or extend solutions for the best outcome. They will drive the use of best practices and learn to influence and force multiply. This role needs to be capable of operating autonomously in partnering with product stakeholders to research, define requirements and realize solutions for complex problems across the end-to-end Delivery experience.

This designer is a vocal advocate for the customer, and they will work on multiple initiatives concurrently. This role operates as an ambassador for best practices, impactful trends, and continually innovates on released features.

Key job responsibilities

The L6 designer’s role is to facilitate process where there is ambiguity in product strategy, product requirements, and technical feasibility. They will be expected to pull insights, guide product stakeholders into design exercises and activities to shape and prioritize user stories ahead of designing solutions. Only when the team has achieved a level of confidence with the collected inputs will this L6 designer lead the team into design activities to realize what would most greatly benefit the customer. This role must be able to recognize risks and effectively communicate and escalate issues that may impact the customer experience, then help to arrive at solutions that are acceptable to cross-functional stakeholders - be it peers or skip-level. This role is a key contributor to generating design documents that succinctly communicate recommendations, limitations, trade-offs and product direction to leaders across the org. This role must be able to articulate potential consequences of short-term solutions that may negatively impact customers. Where there are opportunities, a Senior UX Designer must propose optimal long-term solutions as methods of inventing and simplifying for the greatest impact in delivery. This role will be instrumental in helping to inform and shape product roadmaps, business goals, objectives and metrics that all add customer value.

A day in the life

The Senior UX Designer is a vocal advocate for the customer, and they will work on multiple initiatives concurrently - leading and delegating to other designers when necessary. This role operates as an ambassador for best practices, impactful trends, and continually innovates on released features. Serving as a design lead for multiple charters and sub-charters, this role will be a highly visible team player through their ability to pull stakeholders together to collaborate. They must be willing and capable of guiding dialog and and leading across diverse groups to support and provide direction and mentorship to Jr- Mid level designers. As a lead designer and champion of people, their mentoring will include critiquing, providing design feedback, conducting retros & research that can influence engineering team decisions to enable optimal solutions for our customers.

Responsibilities

  • Use business requirements, visitor data and usability findings to develop scenarios, use cases and high-level requirements

  • Capacity to own and drive the design process and independently define requirements, scope projects and prioritize tasks

  • Quickly iterate on multiple interactive design solutions and informally validate with users

  • Incorporate stakeholder feedback, visitor data and usability findings into conceptual wireframes, high-fidelity mockups and functional prototypes

  • Present design work to multiple teams for review and feedback

  • Advocate for your design solutions by putting them in context of business and user goals

  • Work alongside engineers and product managers throughout all stages of the production cycle

  • Handle multiple projects in a fast-paced, sometimes ambiguous environment

Basic Qualifications

  • 8+ years of design experience

  • Have an available online portfolio

  • Experience with design tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign and prototyping in HTML, JavaScript, CSS, Ajax

  • Bachelor's degree in design, human-computer interaction (HCI), or equivalent professional experience

  • Fluency in best practices for web-based information architecture and design, as well as strong knowledge of usability principles and techniques

  • Experience working on a collaborative team and directly with developers for design implementation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience applying scrum to visual or UX design processes

  • Experience with UX design of complex workflows

  • A clean sense of design aesthetics, and a natural propensity towards simplification over complication

  • Familiarity with the technical considerations needed when designing

  • Experience designing customer facing products

  • Retail/e-commerce experience

  • Experience conducting informal user research methods to validate designs with users

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $127,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $211,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
