Job Description

Purpose & Scope:

The Endoscopic Laser Technician is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of all endoscopic equipment in surgical procedures and performance of laser operations and safety procedures. The Endoscopic Laser Technician is responsible for positioning the booms, lights, monitors, and accessories such as pumps or additional monitors. Powers on all endoscopic equipment and makes sure that it is functioning properly. They are responsible for the functionality of camera box, light source, insufflators, as needed. They input patient and procedure information in the SDC, as well as selecting appropriate surgeon preferences in the SDC. Ensures that portable tower is in place if not using a boom room. Verifies there is enough CO2 for each case, changes CO2 tanks as indicated. Ensures the quality benchmarks are met by color bars being displayed as the signal is transmitted. Transports the tower to the ICU for special Bronchoscopy cases, provides special set up and integration with the Stryker Communications Router, as well as providing basic level 1 trouble shooting with the endoscopic communications Router for robotic procedures, TIF procedures, and Gastric Bypass procedures. Maintains appropriate levels of ink, paper and DVDs in each tower or boom location. Cleans equipment between cases and prepares operating room for emergency add on cases. Provides field trouble-shooting calls throughout the day. Resolves issues which involve image problems due to condensation blurring the image, adjusting the monitor, color settings, etc. Removes defective scopes and cameras ensuring that a replacement is provided and ships the defective item to the vendor for appropriate repairs. Addresses all communications routing issues, getting color bars routed through the PACS to the field monitors, assists with plugging in equipment to help out in a busy OR room while maintaining and ensuring sterility at all times. Retrieves and delivers equipment such as cameras and scopes as needed throughout the day. Assisting with all printer problems, burns DVD saves images to portable hard drive, prints extra copies, deselect images from printing, and provides inventory management, ensures that the rooms are kept running while the camera boxes, SDC's, Light Sources and Insufflators are out for repair. Follows up on all damaged equipment managing and processing the necessary replacements as needed. Checks case carts for all MIS equipment, handles and manages all scopes and cameras after cases preventing damage and follows the process throughout the CSP department. The endoscopic laser technician will oversee implementation of the laser safety protocols and proper checks of all laser equipment. They will be responsible for safe operation of the laser machine during surgical procedures. They will maintain and oversee all inventory control of required supplies for laser procedures. They will provide basic field preventive maintenance and any trouble shooting.

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent experience is preferred.

Experience:

One year of experience in operating room is required.

Experience in endoscopic video equipment, medical laser technology, endoscopic instruments, and last instruments is required.

Certification/Licensure:

BLS certification is required.
