General Motors Quality Engineer - Electrical Wiring in Arlington, Texas

Job Description

Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Arlington Assembly, Arlington Texas on a full-time basis.

The Role:

As a Quality Engineer, you will be the single point contact, and provider of daily support for vehicle electrical wiring, connectors and ground concerns that are impacting the Assembly plant. You are responsible to define, contain, root cause, and eliminate priority Safety, Quality, and Throughput issues identified by vehicle customers or within the assembly plant. Develop quick containments with robust long-term solutions to different problems.

What you’ll do:

  • Act as the Plant’s subject matter expert on vehicle wiring products and develop quality standards and procedures for production operations.

  • Manage multiple projects with broad scope and high degree of difficulty.

  • Generate unique technical solutions utilizing 7 Diamonds Process, Red X and other tools as applicable.

  • Assist production in prevention of defect occurrence and recommend process changes.

  • Work with Launch Team on new vehicle builds. Support IRT Co-Chairs as necessary and transition commodities into the team as launch progresses into saleable builds.

  • Write SPPS/PRTS for wiring issues identified by the plant electrical team.

  • Work with / give direction to the wiring supplier quality engineers.

  • Work with wiring suppliers and VAA assembly to assure quality.

  • Work with Industrial Engineers to assure proper handling and assembly is captured in standardized work.

  • GCA Electrical sufficiency

  • Support other Electrical team members as needed/directed.

  • Support all Electrical BoO elements.

  • Improve wiring to support Electrical First-time quality goal of 94.5%

  • Improving the Programming metric is a critical component of the DRR and meeting the greater than 95% for BIQ4

  • Work is often complex and analytical, requires a self-starter with the ability to work independently.

  • Work Off-Shifts as required.

Additional Job Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Qualifications):

  • Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience

  • 2+ years of relevant experience

  • Demonstrated ability to attain results, while balancing technical solutions with business imperatives.

  • Solid analytical/problem solving skills with capability to identify solutions to unusual and complex problems.

  • Generate technical solutions utilizing 7 Diamonds, Red X, DFMEA Tools and others as applicable.

  • Must excel at problem solving – root cause, containment, robust long term solutions.

  • Exercises independent judgment in managing complex and ambiguous tasks with minimal input from supervisor.

  • Understanding of lean concepts.

  • Thorough understanding and capacity to effectively operate in all areas of the plant production process.

  • Effective communicator with solid oral and written presentation skills.

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Advanced degree in Engineering.

  • Knowledgeable in the application of powertrain products

  • Familiar with 7-diamond process.

  • Red X Journeyman Certification.

  • Good understanding of SPC.

  • Engineering Work Order (EWO)/Parts Release familiarity.

  • Familiar with pulling prints, reading drawings, Vismoc, GDIS, GSIP, GQTS, PRTS, PADs, Gage Strategies.

  • Supplier audit experience.

  • Knowledge of PPAP requirements.

  • Production Group Leader Experience.

  • Certified Quality Engineer.
