Police Sergeant

We’re looking for qualified Police Officer like you to join our Texas Health family.

Work Location: Texas Health Resources, 612 E. Lamar Arlington, TX 76011

Work Hours: Full-Time: Rotating Shifts

Qualifications

Here’s What You Need:

· High School Diploma or equivalent Required.

· Associate degree Business Administration, Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Security, or closely related field Preferred.

· 3 Years Progressive Law enforcement experience to include 1 year Security or law enforcement supervisory experience Required.

· 2 Years Healthcare or education security experience Preferred.

· DL - Driver’s License Class C and insurable Upon Hire Required.

· TCOLE Peace Officer Upon Hire Required.

· ACPI - Advanced Crisis Prevention Intervention Training maintained annually 30 Days Required.

· Other Field Training Officer Certification 12 Months Required

· CPI - Crisis Prevention Intervention Training 14 Days Required

Skills:

· Must complete a personal history statement and psychological evaluation. May be subject to further written and/or oral pre-assignment test/training. Must be able to follow, practice and utilize the Peace Officer Weapons Standard and Qualification General Order to ensure the safety of officers, hospital staff, patients and visitors. Must be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of customer-based Peace Officer management techniques. Must be able to deal with the public and fellow employees in a tactful and diplomatic manner. Must be able to make sound judgments. Must be able to testify in court to present case facts.

· Pursuant to TCOLE Declaration of Medical Condition, Commission Rule 215.15 (c), 217.1 (a), 217.7 (e) new license applicants must complete both a physical exam and drug screen. Licensee Officers with more than a 180-day break in service need drug screen only.

· Must possess the ability to physically defend and/or restrain people.

· Must possess the ability to communicate with others in a clear, understandable, and professional manner on the phone and in person using the English language, and the demonstrated use of good verbal communication skills.

· Must possess the ability to interact effectively with peers, executive and medical staff, department heads and staff in other departments, patients/families, vendors and other customers in a manner that represents Texas Health Resources positively.

· Must be able to write clear and concise detailed incident reports and various other reports as required.

· Must possess the ability to investigate, analyze, and resolve non-routine issues and problems.

· Must possess the ability to maintain regular, reliable and punctual attendance.

· Must possess the ability to learn and apply new information, knowledge and experiences in a timely manner.

· Requires special protective equipment, training, and adherence to prescribed rules and procedures.

· Must possess ability to use a computer and electronic equipment.

· Must possess high levels of alertness.

· Must possess high levels of attention to details.

· Must possess visual and mental concentration on instruments, dials, readouts, displays, etc.

· Must possess the ability to observe and rapidly react to changing situations and operations.

· Must possess precise hand-eye coordination and fine motor dexterity.

· Must possess the ability to continuously stand, walk, or move around the workplace.

· Must be willing and able to travel to other Texas Health Resources locations, external offices and outpatient clinics as needed.

· This position manages people 10-19.

What You Will Do:

· Supervise operations on assigned shifts:

o Leads briefings for officers and distributes equipment.

o Responds to calls for service and disturbances.

o Reviews, completes, and approves shift paperwork and reports.

o Participates in the Texas Health Threat Assessment Team for assigned area and monitors for correct utilization.

· Performs supervisory duties as needed:

o Selects, trains, motivates, supervises, and evaluates assigned staff to ensure maximum utilization of individual and group capabilities, while providing optimal service to both internal and external customers.

o Supervises activities in the assigned work unit to maximize the safety of patients, visitors, staff, and property.

o Ensures all shift paperwork is completed in a timely and accurate manner.

o Maintains a positive working relationship with staff and outside agencies and ensures issues or concerns are appropriately addressed, researched, and resolved.

o Maintains knowledge and enforces applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact or govern the department. Develops effective internal controls that promote adherence to applicable state/federal laws. Seeks advice and guidance as necessary to ensure proper understanding.

o Leads briefings for all officers to communicate pertinent information and distribute equipment to officers.

o Responds to calls and disturbances in a timely manner to ensure actions taken are consistent with established policies and procedures.

o Identifies and analyzes the design of jobs, work processes, workflows, etc, and implements appropriate changes to improve effectiveness, productivity, and efficiency while supporting the overall goals and mission of the system and department.

o Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the police and security field by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, and actively participating in professional organizations. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices. Ensures that assigned employees receive opportunities to further their knowledge.

o Maintain Texas Peace Officer certification and state firearms qualification.

o Provide assistance and other assigned duties to maintain a safe and secure environment.

o Responds to violent physical encounters using the appropriate force necessary to achieve a lawful objective at the same time maintaining professionalism.

o Actively participates in organization training showing proficiency in CPI, ALERRT and other training as required by the department or system.

· Provides training for officers:

o Orientates new employees

o Attends assigned meetings and shares information

· Provides manager with input for:

o Employee selection

o Progressive discipline

o Employee evaluations
