Job Summary
The Materials Science and Engineering Department at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) invites applications for a tenure-track/tenured Assistant/Associate/Full Professor position whose scholarship focuses on one or more of the following research areas: (a) functional materials, (b) materials for energy, and © polymer materials. Exceptional candidates in other areas will also be considered. This is an open rank position, and candidates must hold an earned Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering or a related field. Applicants for the Assistant Professor position must show exceptional promise for high-quality research, teaching, professional development, and the ability to build an extramurally funded research program. For the tenured position, candidates should have an exemplary record of scholarship and recognized leadership in their related field.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The successful applicant will be committed to excellence in research, teaching, and service and will be expected to teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses, build and lead a team of student researchers, implement a program of externally funded research that yields top-tier publications, and contribute to professional service within UTA and the external community. Duties include (1) building and leading a team of Ph.D. researchers and postdocs, (2) developing externally funded research programs that yield top-tier publications, and (3) commitment to quality teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
Required Qualifications
Minimum requirements for this position include (1) a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering or related discipline; (2) a strong publication record or potential in the field of expertise; (3) strong research program with existing external funding or potential for funding; and (4) commitment to quality teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
Preferred Qualifications
The ideal candidate would also have the following professional and personal characteristics:
Strong work ethic and willingness to contribute effectively to a research team;
Integrity in all aspects of personal, institutional, and community involvement;
Strong communications skills, both oral and written

Department Information
The MSE department at UTA has been at the forefront of emerging materials technology by designing and discovering new materials, enabling advanced understanding of challenging material problems, and offering innovative curricula in nanotechnology, computational materials, surface engineering, and advanced functional material (for energy, nano/micro electronics, bio applications). MSE at UTA is the oldest and most diversified program in North Texas with excellent research programs and facilities. The MSE department is a university-wide, interdisciplinary, graduate program with ten core materials faculty and twenty affiliated faculty spanning from physics, chemistry, and engineering.
