United States Steel LMF Second Helper, BRS in Arkansas

Ensure policies, procedures, and all activities are carried out to support BRS goals and objectives at the Ladle Metallurgical Furnace on their respective crew assignments.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensure Safety, Environmental, Quality requirements and “where applicable” ResponsibleSteel requirements are followed.
Ensure good housekeeping practices are carried out in job areas and grounds.
Assist 1st Helper with daily operations of LMF and RH Degasser.
Make heats in a safe, cost effective, and quality manner to achieve customer requirements.
Support all functions of the LMF relating to steel chemistry, slag chemistry, and yield.
Safely operate overhead jib crane.
Support other departments as needed to strengthen BRS profitability and continual improvement efforts.
Qualifications:
Quality, detail, and safety oriented; mechanically inclined and self-motivated.
Strong technical and analytical problem-solving skills with knowledge of steel making process.
Good insight into team dynamics with strong verbal communication skills.
Ability to work without direct supervision.
High School diploma or equivalent; college degree a plus.
Minimum of 1 year experience in a heavy manufacturing environment.
Previous related experience preferred.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
Environment is typical of a steel mill production area, with extreme temperatures, high noise levels, and dusty/greasy areas. Physically demanding work will be required in the production environment and the ability to routinely lift and move heavy objects during shift is required.
Typical work hours are 12-hour shifts, which rotate days and nights. This results in working some weekends/holidays and overtime.
Supervisory Responsibility:
This position does not supervise others.
