Diesel Mechanic/Technician

Pay: $18- $23

Shift: 1st shift (6AM - 4:30PM)

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Mechanic for heavy industrial assembly in the railroad industry. This role involves working on large custom equipment used to pull or replace tracks. The ideal candidate will have experience in maintenance, custom projects in manufacturing, and mechanics. Key tasks include stripping paint, cutting and welding steel parts, and repairing hydraulic hoses. Daily use of blueprints and piping schematics is required.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance and heavy industrial assembly on large railroad equipment.

• Strip paint from large equipment and prepare surfaces for further work.

• Cut and weld steel parts to modify equipment dimensions.

• Repair hydraulic hoses and other hydraulic components.

• Tear down, repair, and fully build railroad machines and equipment.

• Utilize blueprints and piping schematics to guide assembly and repairs.

Essential Skills

• Experience with mechanical assembly and maintenance repair.

• Proficiency in welding and working with hydraulic systems.

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and piping schematics.

• Experience with power tools and hand tools.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Knowledge of pneumatics is preferred.

• Hands-on experience with custom repairs and mechanical assembly.

• Willingness to learn and work hard.

• Enjoys working with hands and getting dirty.

Work Environment

You will be working in a friendly team environment with a 1st shift schedule from 6 AM to 4:30 PM. Overtime is usually available and occasionally required, with plenty of notice given and efforts to accommodate schedules. The role offers a 140-day contract to hire opportunity, with competitive pay based on experience.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Arcola, Illinois.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $21.00
