This position will work 40 hrs per week
An opportunity is available for a self-motivated, hardworking individual to fill an OPS Biological Scientist I position at the District 3 Administration office in Apopka Florida, located in Wekiwa Spring State Park. District 3 contains 33 parks from St. Johns county south to Indian River county and west to the Pasco county line. The position primarily works in the District 3 Administration Office assisting field staff and biologists to enter critical resource management data with frequent opportunities to gain field experience.

Pay:
Starting salary- $15.00 per hour
Duties included but are not limited to:
Managing Access Databases (data entry, corrections, coordination)
Reviews, updates, and gathers information for unit management plans
Enters, reviews and tracks water and research/collecting permits for all parks. Works with the permit coordinators to edit and issue new permits
Assists with exotic plant and animal removal data entry
Enters staff training, prescriptions, and various other prescribed fire data into statewide databases and compiles monthly reports
Assists with interpretive programs by assembling power point presentations for the district biological staff to present to public
Compiles and inputs data from species surveys into various spreadsheets and databases
Collects hydrologic, restoration, prescribed fire, invasive species, mechanical treatment, animal removal, timber sale, and salvaged specimen data from parks for quarterly reports
Assists with biological surveys as needed
Assists with prescribed fire if able (a moderate pack test required to perform this duty; light pack test with proof of previous moderate test)
Assists the biologists with scheduling, appointments, correspondence, meetings, trainings, budget tracking, and purchasing
Performs other tasks when needed
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES FOR THE POSITION:
A bachelor’s or graduate degree in biological sciences with 1 year of professional experience.
Do you have an interest in participating in prescribed fire? If so, you must have the ability to pass a moderate pack test which you must walk for 2 miles carrying 25lb in under 30 minutes or with previous record of a moderate test.
Knowledge of: Florida natural communities; native and exotic plants and animals; budget management; computer software and how to apply it to administrative tasks
Skill in: Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Office 365, Adobe software, GPS, database management, multitasking, time management, archiving, data tracking and entry, spreadsheet creation, project management, budget tracking
Ability to: effectively work with a variety of people; work alone in the office and in the field, create detailed reports, communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; effectively and efficiently provide administrative support to superiors.
