Your day at NTT DATA

The Senior Director, Global Design Standards is a senior leadership role, responsible for leading a team of Design Managers and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and overseeing design standards of NTT facilities construction projects. The design effort involves coordination between cross functional experts and external vendors/consultants. This position requires a strong background in data center design, commissioning, and operations with a proven track record of developing and implementing global design standards.

The Senior Director, Global Design Standards is a creative, detail-oriented problem solver with excellent communication skills that can achieve high quality standards while carefully considering cost and feasibility factors. This role possesses good judgment to meet project objectives, with the ability to collaborate and manage the accountabilities of a diverse interdisciplinary team focused on creating and maintaining the best facilities environments in industry.

What you'll be doing

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Oversees the preparation and execution of stakeholder/vendor agreements, defining Scope of Work, Scope of Services and Fees based on project requirements, design standards, and system specifications.

• Manages the day-to-day activities of the SME team and manage the technical issues that arise in design, construction, and commissioning.

• Oversees change management processes.

• Contributes to the continuous development of global program standards and specifications, staying ahead of industry trends, and adapting to global changes in market and environment.

• Collaborations with cross functional teams as to product to build, options and timeline, and provide solutions to meet project goals.

• Collaborates when needed to discuss new process efficiencies and/or new products and/or facilities configurations.

• Oversees consultant strategy and reviews.

• Ability to “defend” the design and know and articulate impact of deviations.

• Responsible for ensuring that the global design standards are followed unless project conditions warrant deviations. If so, obtain consensus and document.

• Ensures compliance with NTT standards on all projects and assure that these standards are up to date with industry best practices and meet the company’s business objectives (Emphasis on value-engineering).

• Oversees maintaining and updating relevant NTT design standards/requirements.

• Assists in the preparation and review of budgets and forecasts related to anticipated design and construction expenditures.

• Develops and maintains vendor relationships (Contractors, Architects, Engineers, Consultants, etc.) to provide cost-effective services for NTT projects.

• Solicit pricing from consultants via RFP’s or pricing exercises to ensure best price and best work results.

• Reviews Contracts and Scope documents to verify needs based on project requirements.

• May prepare requests for proposals.

• May evaluate proposals and recommendations to management regarding vendor selection.

• Coordinates with internal NTT organization on sustainability issues related to design and best practices.

• Communicate status of projects to both internal and external stakeholders on an ad-hoc and formal basis.

• Ensures that all stakeholders are up to date with regards to design schedule and potential issues.

• Prepares monthly project reports regarding the budget, schedule, and scope objectives of assigned projects.

• Ability to understand and interpret design and construction drawings/specifications, project schedules, detailed budgets and estimate summaries.

• In-depth knowledge of all aspects of a data center construction project, with an emphasis on Mechanical, Electrical, Security, Fire, and Control systems

• Excellent coordination and project management skills

• Excellent verbal and written communications skills

• Strong interpersonal skills: ability to present ideas effectively, and to be able to evaluate the ideas of others in project meetings.

• Experience in interfacing and coordinating intra-disciplinary departments to assess departmental needs and program requirements.

• An understanding of design and construction budgets, and how to balance design requirements to the established budget.

• Strong knowledge of construction methodologies, building codes, safety regulations, and industry best practices.

• Excellent leadership, team management, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and collaborate with global teams.

• Understanding of engineering principles and best practices.

• Proven experience implementing processes in rapid growth environments and operating in compliance with global regulations.

• Skilled in creating collaborative environments, organizing meetings, and possessing strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Familiarity with industry standards, such as the Uptime Institute Tier Classification System.

• Ability to develop creative and innovative solutions to reduce costs without sacrificing quality and reliability.

• Ability to “defend” the design, know and articulate impact of deviations.

• Ability to develop and take new design concepts through detailed design, peer review, executive review, construction, and operation.

• Thorough understanding of Civil, Structural, Mechanical, and Electrical design concepts

• Proficiency with AIA documents desired

• Proficiency with MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, Outlook, drafting software (ACAD and/or Revit).

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s degree in design, Architecture, Engineering, or in related field / equivalent experience required.

• Professional licenses or certifications are desirable.

• Master’s degree is a plus.

• Extensive experience (15+ years) in design of critical facilities and/or complex infrastructure, preferably in a leadership role within the design industry, which includes:> Substantial experience with consultant negotiation and management> Substantial experience leading project teams and coordinating multiple and diverse stakeholder requirements.> Substantial experience with Revit and/or other BIM applications> Substantial experience leading and managing facilities design teams and other cross functional teams.> Substantial working acumen with CSA and MEP systems development; Architectural, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering education or experience is a plus

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Remain stationary for long periods of time.

• Operate computer, peripherals, and other office equipment.

WORK CONDITIONS & OTHER REQUIREMENTS

• Must be willing to work supporting a global business.

• Travel required up to 50% of time.

• Perform work from a remote location with stable internet connection.

• Must possess a current, valid state-issues driver’s license

This is a remote position that requires reliable internet connection and electricity. A monthly stipend is provided to cover expenses associated with working remotely and use of a personal mobile device, if applicable.

NTT Global Data Centers Americas, Inc. offers competitive compensation based on experience, education, and location. Base salary for this position is $ 222,200.00 - $ 277,800.00

All regular full-time employees are eligible for an annual bonus; payout is dependent upon individual and company performance
