This position exists to provide technical expertise to the Superfund Site Assessment Section by evaluating, conducting, directing, and coordinating hydrogeologic investigations of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) at sites located throughout Minnesota.

The incumbent will work with a team to scope, implement, and report out groundwater investigations and water well sampling efforts to ensure nearby private and public drinking water systems are protected from PFAS contamination. When contamination is found to be present, the incumbent will work to develop interim and permanent treatment solutions.

Technical work will also include coordinating with other remediation programs including Superfund, RCRA, and/or voluntary Brownfield sites; therefore, they must be familiar with State and Federal contamination cleanup frameworks (e.g., Minnesota Environmental Response and Liability Act – MERLA, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act – RCRA, and/or Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act – CERCLA). This position may also prepare work orders and manage projects being conducted by MPCA Superfund contractors.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in one of the following areas: Hydrology, Geology, Hydrogeology, Water Resources Management, Soil Science Environmental Health; Environmental Science; or other closely-related environmental field; and two completed courses in Hydrology/Hydrogeology. [Candidates must list the two courses in Hydrology/Hydrogeology on their resume to qualify]

AND

Two years of professional experience as a Hydrologist or equivalent. Experience must include investigating and assessing risks from non-petroleum contaminated sites (e.g., dense non-aqueous phase liquids [DNAPL], PFAS, and/or other emerging contaminates).

WITH

Basic computer skills; proficiency in Word and exposure to Excel and Power Point.

Ability to gain a complete understanding of the environmental regulatory process and procedures.

Knowledge of statistical principles and methods of data analysis and ability to apply these methods.

Good communication skills and the ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with internal and external business partners.

Possess a valid Driver's license (see additional requirements)..

Preferred Qualifications

Experience investigating and addressing risks related to PFAS.

Knowledge and understanding of hydrologic analyses and an ability to evaluate the impact of pumping conditions on surface water and groundwater systems.

Ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple time-sensitive and complex projects; plan and allocate time and resources as necessary; establish and meet deadlines.

Ability to communicate technical matters effectively through writing and public presentation.

Experience developing, reviewing, and evaluating technical reports.

Experience/coursework with GIS-based software applications (e.g., ArcMap/ArcGIS Pro, QGIS)

Ability to make environmental regulatory decisions based on data.

Physical Requirements

Requires occasionally lifting and/or carrying such articles as file folders, ledgers, and small equipment. Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties.

Additional Requirements

A driver’s license is an essential function of this position. This requires possession of an unrestricted Class D Driver’s License. The job offer is contingent on confirmation of a valid driver’s license AND a satisfactory DLR check.

Requires a Class D driver´s License: a single unit vehicle with a gross vehicle weight of less than 26,000 pounds. This is a basic driver’s license. Operators may also tow vehicles/trailers as long as the gross combination weight does not exceed 26,000 pounds.
