Are you currently employed as a law enforcement officer and are ready to advance your career in public service? The Anoka County Sheriff's Office is hiring a Detective/CID Investigator. Candidate must currently be employed as a peace officer in the state of Minnesota with a minimum of three years of experience as a peace officer in Anoka County or a minimum of five years of experience as a peace officer in Minnesota. Individuals with special investigative skills such as computer investigations, finance, accounting, or other special skills are encouraged to apply. This full-time, non-exempt, benefit-eligible position is located at the Anoka County Sheriff's Office in Andover. Pay & Benefits Salary: 2024 hiring rate (per union contract): $111,633 ($53.67 per hour). 2024 Anoka County Salary Schedule Grade 2104: (per union contract): $111,633 to $123,136 ($53.67 to $59.20 per hour). 2025 full salary range (per union contract): Currently under negotiation. 24 days of paid flexible time off and up to 12.5 paid holidays. Work Location Once hired, detectives are required to live within 40-miles of the Anoka County Sheriff's Office in Andover within one year after completing the one-year probation period. During probation, detectives are required to stay at a location within a 40-mile distance of the Sheriff's Office when assigned as the "A" or "B" shift detective including "on-calls." Full-time; 40+ hours per pay week. Law enforcement schedule with annual shift bids. Job Duties and Responsibilities These examples are not all inclusive and are intended to be illustrative of primary responsibilities of an Anoka County Detective/CID Investigator. Direct or consult on the activities of other law enforcement officers at major crime scenes or during major criminal incidents. Investigate criminal sexual conduct cases, suspicious deaths, homicides, and fatal motor vehicle accidents occurring in Anoka County and determine the scope of the investigation required. Conduct criminal investigations related to computer crime by forensically analyzing and investigating mobile devices and other computer devices. Conduct child forensic interviews. Investigate felony level crimes and analyze appropriate criminal law. Identify, locate, and interview persons having knowledge pertinent to the case as well as locate and interrogate suspects within legal constraints to obtain statements that are admissible in court. Gather evidence by making observations, retrieving public records, executing search warrants, and making arrests while preserving the evidence as required to ensure admissibility in court. Investigate suspicious death scenes when appropriate, analyze evidence as well as circumstances at the scene, gather medical histor , interview family members and witnesses and notify next-of-kin. Assist attorneys in prosecution of cases by gathering further evidence as needed, serve subpoenas, execute search warrants, sign complaints, and compose court exhibits. Provide credible court testimony, prepare and submit investigative summary files for prosecution. Qualifications and Requirements: Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed Must currently be employed as a peace officer in the state of Minnesota. Three years of full-time (2,080 annual hours) paid work experience as a peace officer in Anoka County OR five years of full-time (2,080 annual hours) paid work experience as a peace officer in the state of Minnesota. Must undergo, and pass, a thorough physical and psychological examination, and thorough background investigation. Must be able to provide credible testimony. Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed Bachelor's degree in related field. Previous investigation experience. Skill in calmly handling stressful situations. Skill in oral and written communications. Skill in driving a motor vehicle under any conditions and handling and discharging firearms safely and proficiently. Ability to see, hear and remember people, evidence, facts, and circumstances as well as chase and subdue suspects as required. Ability to stand, walk, sit for long periods of time, bend, crouch, stoop, stretch, crawl, lift, carry or drag objects or people weighing up to 100 pounds at accident scenes or when responding to calls for service. No tattoos, scars or brands that qualify as "Unauthorized Tattoos" under the Sheriff's Office Policy 1044.3 are allowed under any circumstances by any member of the Anoka County Sheriff's Office. Tattoos on the head, face, neck, or hands are prohibited. Exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis. (Complete policy available upon request).
