Healthcare Quality Reporting & Improvement (HQRI) delivers integrated risk adjustment (RA) and quality (Stars) solutions that leverage data and technology to empower members, providers, and Humana. Additionally, HQRI leads cross-enterprise EMR interoperability efforts. HQRI Technology & Analytics (HTA) has recently launched a new organization dedicated to technical solutions that help support and connect across these member and provider focused efforts.

HTA’s new Member & Provider Analytics organization (MPA) is developing a new model of delivery by incorporating principles of Large-Scale Scrum, dedicated Partnership Leaders, and collective Product Ownership. MPA operates with a spirit of shared success whereby our ability to help business partners maximize the effectiveness and accuracy of their programs yields better member care, health outcomes, provider partnerships and the financing of benefits for Medicare Advantage beneficiaries.

The Senior Data Engineer Designs, builds, and maintains data processing architectures and solutions enabling the efficient conversion of structured and unstructured data to insights at enterprise scale. The Senior Data Engineer work assignments involve moderately complex to complex issues where the analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.

The Senior Data Engineer on the Member and Provider Analytics (MPA) team will be a talented associate who will build relationships within MPA and with our customers to understand business needs and expectations. The candidate will deliver reliable and timely solutions for ingesting and transforming large quantities of data from disparate sources in an optimized and scalable manner for prioritized business requests utilizing cloud native platforms and software development best practices and patterns. Develops software tools that leverage artificial intelligence, machine learning, and big-data techniques to cleanse, organize, and transform data into insights and actions that enables Humana to better serve our members. The needs of our business segment change frequently, so the ideal candidate will leverage subject matter experts and other resources, clearly communicate across technical and business teams, and resolve ambiguity to solve business problems with curiosity. A successful candidate will be able to clearly explain the details of the work to both customers and the team. Must be passionate about contributing to an organization focused on continuously improving consumer experiences.

Key responsibilities:

  • Establish and uphold the goals/expectations that support the fulfillment of culture and business objectives.

  • Operate with team-first mindset that is committed to ensuring the overall success of the team/organization.

  • Create cloud native data engineering solutions (design, data movement, orchestration, optimization) for prioritized business requests impacting organizational and enterprise initiatives.

  • Evaluate and improve existing Data Engineering solutions.

  • Contribute to moving the team towards a cloud-based BI platform.

  • Maintain and support data analytics platform.

  • Work collaboratively with teammates to optimally apply data warehouse, cloud and BI architecture, normalization and data visualization techniques to delivered solutions.

  • Work with other Business Intelligence engineers to ensure code is optimized for performance and right tools are being used for the right jobs.

  • Looks for and makes recommendations about optimizations to the technology stack used by the team.

  • Creates larger scale solutions to meet business needs.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or 8 or more years of technical experience in data analysis OR Master's degree and 4 years of experience

  • Ability to analyze data to solve a wide variety of business problems, design and develop appropriate data movement and orchestration tools and code to support strategic direction

  • Strong SQL database design and optimization, ETL support skills

  • Ability to develop modular, reusable code and tools

  • Strong understanding of data architecture and design principles

  • Experience working in the Azure cloud ecosystem (ADLS/Databricks/ADF/ASA) or other cloud-based platforms

  • Expertise in T-SQL, python, pyspark and pySQL languages

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Power BI, Power Automate and Power Apps

  • Thoroughly test and clearly document code

  • Review the work of other engineers

  • Proven ability to work with cross-functional teams and translate requirements between business, project management and technical projects or programs

  • Able to present and communicate valuable insights to stakeholders, as well as senior and executive leadership using visualizations

  • Excel, Word, PowerPoint for presenting data and solutions

  • Integrity – committed to ethical actions and decisions

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Tableau and/or Qlik for creating data visualizations

  • Familiarity with a variety of databases specifically in Oracle, SAS, multi-cloud is a plus

  • Fully understands query execution plans and optimization.

  • Previous experience with and knowledge around the CMS Stars and/or Risk Adjustment programs

  • Broad understanding of our businesses and connectedness to key Humana constituent areas

  • Knowledge of Humana's internal policies, procedures, and systems

  • Experience navigating Humana compliance and security within EIP and EA

Pay Range

The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.

$106,900 - $147,000 per year

This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
