Job Summary

The University of Michigan Stamps School of Art and Design is looking for an HR Generalist to play a critical role in HR operations, staff engagement, and professional development. You will be an experienced professional who will be the primary HR contact for staff and lecturer faculty, manage human resource transactions, and ensure the accuracy and timeliness of HR data in our systems. You will be eligible for a hybrid work modality. This will include working remotely and onsite in Ann Arbor, MI. You will report to the HR Director. Responsibilities*

HR Operations, Engagement, and Development (40%)

  • Primary HR contact for staff

  • Manage all HR transaction workflow and ensure HR data integrity with the UM Shared Services Center (SSC)

  • Develop workflows, forms, processes, and tracking systems

  • Manage staff leaves of absence including the FMLA process and act as contact for Work Connections cases

  • Manage the staff professional development budget and funding request process

  • In collaboration with the HR Director and the DEI Manager, develop and implement a program of professional development and engagement opportunities

  • Manage staff annual review and merit process

  • Ensure compliance and internal controls are maintained

Staff Recruiting & Onboarding (40%)

  • Coordinate all aspects of staff recruiting including developing job descriptions and postings in collaboration with hiring managers, ensure adherence to UM policies, provide advice on inclusive recruiting strategies, and manage communications with candidates

  • Develop tools, strategies, and training to ensure the School is using best practices in all aspects of recruiting and onboarding

  • Manage onboarding and offboarding practices for all staff

Lecturer Life Cycle (15%)

  • Ensure adherence to the LEO Lecturer contract

  • In collaboration with the Associate Dean for Academic Programs, support the recruitment efforts for Lecturer Faculty

  • Facilitate new lecturer onboarding and offboarding processes

  • Complete the reappointment process for Lecturer Faculty

  • Produce contract letters

  • Coordinate Lecturer faculty reviews; manage review notifications and processes.

  • Be the liaison between the Lecturer Review Committee and Executive Committee

General HR Support (5%)

  • Represent the School's HR team at central HR unit meetings; participate in training programs for Stamps School employees

  • Be the primary contact for matters related to employee illness and injury, in collaboration with the School's Facilities Director

Required Qualifications*

Required Qualifications at the Senior Level

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources or related field or the equivalent combination of education and experience

  • 5+ years experience in technical/operational human resources

  • Demonstrated broad-based knowledge of human resources practice and policy, such as recruiting, development, compensation, compliance, and labor relations

  • Demonstrated proficiency with project management software and HR databases

  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion

  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of federal and state employment laws and regulations

Required Qualifications at the Intermediate Level

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources or related field or the equivalent combination of education and experience

  • 2+ years experience in technical/operational human resources

  • Demonstrated broad-based knowledge of human resources practice and policy, such as recruiting, development, compensation, compliance, and labor relations

  • Experience with project management software and HR databases

  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion

  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of federal and state employment laws and regulations
