About Pokagon State Park:

Pokagon State Park is named to acknowledge the rich Native American heritage of the state and region. Leopold and Simon Pokagon, father and son, were notable leaders of the Potawatomi. Pokagon means “something used to shield,” a fitting attribute of two leaders who championed for Native-American rights. The park is framed by Lake James and Snow Lake which offer opportunities for boating, swimming, fishing, and scenic sunsets. Pokagon is also a favorite winter destination for cross-country skiing, sledding, twin-track tobogganing, and ice fishing.

Role Overview:

The Account Clerk performs routine calculating, posting, and verifying duties for the park. You will also oversee the general store during the recreational season. You will handle large sums of money from admission fees and store sales, necessitating close compliance to state administrative guidelines.

Salary Statement:

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $34,216.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Maintain official agency financial records and is responsible for certifying their accuracy.

  • Exercise limited purchasing and inventory control.

  • Assist in preparation and control of agency budget.

  • Receive, deposit, and distribute monies, securities, or other valuables.

  • Authorize payment of vouchers or prepare voucher for director’s signature.

  • Write checks, transmit payments, audit transactions, post and process encumbrances and expenditures and perform transactions utilizing the correct department forms and records as needed.

  • Check requisitions for quality, quantity, and price per Quantity Purchase Award contract.

  • Calculate monthly profit-loss statement or make other computations and calculations of agency records.

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and yearly financial reports.

  • Negotiate settlement of accounts.

  • Operate all types of office equipment and order equipment and repairs.

  • Let and re-let leases and arrange auctions, sales, and receipt of bids.

What You'll Need for Success:

You must meet the following requirement to be considered for employment:

  • Working knowledge of bookkeeping, auditing, contracts and contracting procedures.

  • Working knowledge of department functions and office procedures.

  • Effectively communicate, both orally and in writing.

  • Ability to learn the operation of all kinds of office equipment.

  • Ability to solve different problems, some of which may not have been previously encountered.

  • Ability to work under pressure and to practice diplomacy, tact, and courtesy.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • Aptitude for business mathematics and public relations.

  • Ability to accurately handle money and other items of value and eligible to be bonded.
