Denali Universal Services (DUS) Security Officer/Screener: Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport in Anchorage, Alaska

JOB SUMMARY

Under limited supervision, the Security Officer provides protection of work site/facilities, personnel, and assets from events such as assault, theft, vandalism, harassment, and other disruptive incidents at the Ted Stevens International Airport. Screening airport workers and monitoring access control are core responsibilities for this role. Collaborates with the rest of the security team for effective delivery of security services and coverage at the job site.

The general responsibilities of the position include those listed below, but the company may identify other responsibilities of the position based on client and/or business operations at the assigned job site.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 18 years of age

  • High school diploma or GED certificate

  • One (1) year of work experience with a municipal, state, or federal law enforcement agency, military police unit, corrections activity, or private security company within the past five years

  • Able to obtain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge upon hire

  • State of Alaska Unarmed Security Guard License or able to obtain

  • Must have reliable transportation to/from the work site. Driver’s license strongly preferred.

  • Able to proficiently speak, read, understand and write English

  • Excellent communication and customer service/public relations skills

  • As a condition of employment, must be able to successfully complete a criminal background investigation, drug screen, and a post-offer physical/fitness for duty evaluation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provide customer service to the client by carrying out safety and security procedures, site-specific policies and, when appropriate, emergency response activities.

  • Guard property against damage, fire, theft, and illegal or unauthorized entry.

  • Responsible for screening airport workers by performing the following duties:

  • Transport, set-up, use, and tear-down mobile screening equipment.

  • Conduct screening of selected personnel in a calm, respectful, and professional manner.

  • Screening will include an electronic search of the person and all belongings and a physical or visual search or removed exterior clothing and personal effects. Physical contact between the screener and the person being screened is not directed or intended.

  • Responsible for wearing the appropriate personal protective gear and for cleaning, storing and appropriate use of airport supplied equipment and materials.

  • Enforce safety and security measures, perform regular patrols of assigned premises, monitor access control and respond to incidents based on established operational procedures.

  • Visually, electronically and audibly monitor a variety of assigned areas or grounds including but not limited to: roving inside the facilities, manning stationary checkpoints, monitoring traffic and parking areas, examining personnel credentials to ensure that access is authorized, and other.

  • Effectively and coherently communicate using a two-way radio or telephone.

  • Report and record data such as property damage or unusual occurrences in accordance with company policies and procedures.

  • Interview witnesses to investigate disturbances, complaints, thefts, vandalism and other incidents.

  • Write Daily Activity Reports and/or Incident Reports.

  • Assist in properly responding to a variety of emergencies or disasters in order to preserve life and property, including but not limited to fire safety and active shooter protocol.

  • Respond to incidents and critical situations in a calm, deescalating, and problem-solving manner.

  • May assist management and law enforcement officials in emergency situations.

  • Display courteous, respectful and professional interactions with the public and customers.

  • Must be able to stay alert at all times to ensure the safety of protected assets.

  • Must comply with established dress code/uniform requirements.

  • Report all accidents and injuries in a timely manner.

  • Participate in regular safety meetings, safety training and hazard assessments.

  • Complete all job required training programs (classroom and virtual) as designated.

  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.

  • Ability to work a varying schedule including nights, weekends, holidays and extended hours.

  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related duties as needed.
