Southern California Institute of Technology Electrical/Electrician Instructor in Anaheim, California

Position Summary

The Electrical/Electrician Instructor is responsible for instructing students enrolled in the General Electrician program on topics related to the National Electrical Code, electrical installation, and maintenance of electrical systems up to 600 volts. This position includes instructing students in a classroom environment as well as supervising students in a laboratory environment. The position may also include instructing students in a virtual, online environment.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct electrician students on NFPA 70 rules for electrical installations, wiring methods, conduit bending, troubleshooting, calculations and other materials in the General Electrician curriculum. Additional topics may include an introduction to electric motor installation and an introduction to programmable logic controllers (PLCs), specifically Allen Bradley PLC, should the applicant possess the appropriate knowledge and background.

  • Demonstrate safe and effective techniques for electrical installation.

  • Develop lesson plans and assessments appropriate to the learning objectives of the instructed courses.

  • Employ effective teaching strategies that promote student engagement and motivation.

  • Participate in meetings to discuss and evaluate curricular issues, and to ensure effective and collaborative decisions across departments.

  • Participate in the development, recommendation, and systematic review of academic policies/procedures, at the program and institutional level

  • Perform lab assisting and inspection of students' lab work.

  • Proctor exams and maintain/report grades for the classes taught.

    Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years field experience in residential and commercial work. Industrial experience a plus.

  • Teaching and/or training experience preferred, but not necessary.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent presentation and public speaking skills.

  • Preference for state recognized licensure in the profession (e.g. Journeyman License, C-10 License, etc.).
