Electrical Project Engineer

Focus/Objective

The Electrical Project Engineer is responsible for assisting in the implementation of assigned capital projects across the North American organization. The successful candidate will primarily be responsible for scope development and project execution but may also take a role in identifying project opportunities to improve reliability and reviewing budgets, schedules, scopes and execution.

Environmental, Health & Safety Responsibilities:

Roles and Responsibilities of All Employees:

  • Become familiar with Environmental, Safety & Health (ES&H) policies and procedures.

  • Immediately report all ES&H incidents (injuries, near misses, releases).

  • Complete all required ES&H training in a timely fashion.

  • Follow all  facility and corporate ES&H procedures and practices.

  • Attend and actively participate in facility ES&H meetings and forums that will drive employee involvement.

  • Provide feedback and suggestions for ES&H program improvement.

  • Participate in job safety analysis activities.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    This role is an individual contributor and will interface with all levels of the Manufacturing organization and functions to achieve desired objectives. The role will manage electrical projects, will lead project teams, consultants, and contractors, and will execute various other engineering functions and tasks.

     

  • Capital Project Execution/Construction Management                                                               80%

    Safety, Health and Environment

    Supports developing, promoting, and carrying out policies to ensure that the facilities are following Responsible Care, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements at all times.

    People/Supervisory

    This role is an individual contributor. This role will interface with all levels and departments of the organization to achieve desired objectives.

    Functional

  • Manages multiple capital projects ranging in size from $250K to $2M.

  • Incorporates safety, health, and environmental best practices and regulatory compliance into all engineering and project management activities, and ensures adherence to engineering principles, practices, and standards.

  • Ensures appropriate project resourcing of the owner’s team and securing of outsourced engineering, procurement, and construction resources as required.

  • Collaborates with engineering and project management peers and mentors and provides development of best-practice project and capital management systems.

  • Provides technical and engineering support to facilities, including conducting engineering studies and assisting in development of capital cost estimates.

  • Performs various technical activities in support of turnarounds, reliability projects, and production improvements for facilities.

  • Supports other programs and management systems, including reliability centered maintenance, process safety management, mechanical integrity, preventive and predictive maintenance, and continuous improvement.

  • Ability to support multiple sites’ project requirements and direct contractors and engineering services.

    Minimum Position Qualifications/Requirements:

     

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering (mechanical/chemical considered), or a combination of alternate technical degrees (i.e. Associate of Science, other technical degree) with 8-10 years of directly relevant experience.

  • 5-8 years of engineering experience in manufacturing plants and 3-5 years of manufacturing experience supporting operations/engineering/maintenance/etc.

  • Ability to travel 50%-75%

    Desired Experience: 

  • Capital project management (electrical-specific)

  • Chemical or refining industry experience

  • Construction/Fabrication oversight

  • Drafting/AutoCAD proficiency

  • Equipment design/installation (electrical)

  • Material handling equipment

  • Piping systems and pumps

  • Pneumatic equipment

  • Materials of construction/corrosion

  • Responsible Care 14001, ISO 14001

  • NEC, NFPA, ASTM and ANSI standards

    Physical Demands / Work Environment:

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:

     

  • Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. 

  • Occasionally required to climb stairs/ladders (including vertical)

  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job may include close vision.

  • Physically capable of spending long hours sitting in an office environment.

  • Must be “fit for duty”.

    Work Environment Must be able to perform under the following conditions:

  • Working in awkward or confining workspaces.

  • Work in elevated places.

  • Work in an outdoor environment.

  • Work in noisy environments.

  • Work in areas that are dusty and have some odor from chemicals, etc.

  • Safety is a job requirement.

  • Able to work in Adverse Weather Conditions.

  • Be capable of spending long hours outdoors on your feet and occasionally work in protective clothing and equipment such as: acid suits, rain suits, self-contained breathing apparatus, face shields, hoods, etc.
